This renovation of this English style townhouse on the upper east side of Manhattan called for the addition of a swimming pool at the roof level. The building was designed by the renowned Architect Mott B. Schmidt and built in 1925-26. The new rooftop addition required the installation of an independent steel framework designed to support the pool free of the perimeter masonry walls of the building. A new central staircase was designed to replicate and extend the original one. This project went through a lot of phases and changes through out the years. Started as a neoclassical taste (per client personal taste) and evolve to a more contemporary concept.

This Building is part of the MacDougal- Sullivan Historic District of Manhattan. The client was a young couple with plans to extend their family. For that reason, the idea of maximized the space became one of the main purposes of the project, even though the lot was very narrow and restrictive. By flipping the traditional plan layout for a siteresponsive and versatile architectural scheme, unusual garden- facing living and sleeping areas in this townhouse. The shell- inspired spiral of the walnut wood staircase together with an elegant interior design have shaped contemporary spaces that are open yet private and suggest an environment of sophisticated domesticity.

This classic-inspired renovation was done in an apartment facing the gorgeous views of the Central Park East. The carved ceiling in the foyer was the main feature you see as soon as you walk into the apartment. The symmetry, always a relevant part in this type of projects, was considered specially in the Dining Room where it was crucial to add an element- a non existing window- for balance.

This project started in a vacant loft in Midtown Manhattan. The client wanted a modern and sleek office-showroom space to reflect the same concept as his products. The plan also reflects the same simplicity with some private uses located at the edges and very open circulation in the core of the space: open, moveable partitions provide flexible workspace. A minimal, high contrast palette of white and brown heightens the playful interaction of line and form.

The main focus in this project was to restored the restaurant to its glamourous origins. The interior design is an amalgam of a cafe experience and a social club environment. The originals hand-painted murals at the entrance area were kept and restored. In the dinning area, a long- stunning mural by the renowned artist Sorel was incorporated. The fine details in the millwork, the delicate use of the bronze and the necessary amount of reflection created a sophisticated yet welcome space.

This project on a 90-acre farm in upstate NY was a big challenge: design spaces that would feel connected to the landscape and reflect the latest in green technology. Open spaces, cross ventilation, use of the sun –photovoltaic solar panels on the roof– and materials were crucial components in the design.

This duplex project was a very unique experience: the Client had unexpected taste and ideas - having Gottic, Lalanne and Russian constructivist as inspirations- which needed to be interpreted in non-conventional ways. Adding a layer of complexity, the building was very strict with its normative and procedures. A summary of difficulties made the client changed his primaries ideas and go for a more conservative style.

WASHINGTON HTS, NEW YORK

This was a renovation of a beautifully well-preserved townhouse in the Jumel Terrace Historic District, Washington Heights. This 4 story building has virtually all of its grand and original detail intact. The owner wanted minimal interior work, preserve as much as possible the character of the building, and add one more story at roof level. The new level was particularly a challenge since this was a important addition in a Landmark district area. After presentations to the LPC Community Boards and seeing some resistance from the members, the client abandon the idea of the roof deck and decide to keep the project with its original stories.

This apartment is part of a pre-war 13-story building on the edge of Brooklyn Heights, bordering downtown Brooklyn. It was built in 1928 by St. John’s College as its main building on the downtown campus. It went through different phases and renovations until it was converted to residential apartments. This apartment in particular used to be a medical office. The owner loved the idea of a loft concept. With its high ceilings and concrete floors, this place was the perfect opportunity to create an open space with clean lines and minimal intervention.

This building is located in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. It was built in 1920 and has 4 stories and 8 units. The owner rents the upper floors while the ground floor and basement are occupied by him and his family. He decided to expand the ground floor, with additional bedrooms and two more bathrooms. He also liked the idea to reconfigured the living and kitchen areas. The basement level remained relatively unchanged. Over the demolition process, some structural concerns were raised in the upper floors and needed to be taken care of immediately, slowing down the process.

A young, artistic couple owns this existing 1 story plus basement house at a great location in front of Cooper Park, in the Williambursg section of Brooklyn. The ideal house they wanted was one with multiple levels and unexpected spaces. The final design resulted in a four-story “townhouse plus cellar and usable roof. The height of this new townhouse may impact the block in some form because most of the houses here are only three stories tall. Even though they communicated their desire for modern, industrial taste inside they wanted the exterior front facade to reminisce of a suburban townhouse. We accommodated their budget and desire for sustainable green materials such as cement block and energy saving walls. The structure of this house was highly challenging because of its multiple levels.

The theme of this competition between Architecture students was the Urban Ordination and Architectonic Project on the San Lorenzo's suburb. The site was outside of the ancient medieval wall. It was surrounded by a narrow river, which periodically change its depth, a highway and medieval houses with their own church. The program was mainly housing. The site was enveloped with a long irregular stripe which created common spaces and gave different character in all its facades.

The site for this project was situated in a modest suburb of the city. The main challenge of this house was come up with a cleaner-modern idea besides the very limited budget and the interest of the client in a more conservative style. Two simple white volumes created some interesting areas of intersections.
