How to Deal With GMC Duramax Starter Motor Problems in Jeffersonville? Commonly the starter motor problems are arising in the vehicle for numerous reasons such as loose connections, failed system components, corroded battery terminals, and many more problems. When any of the engine components are worn out, your GMC Duramax becomes more difficult or refuses to start. If the starter motor fails suddenly in your vehicle, then you unable to get the sources of the problem. In this condition, the engine will fire up while turning the ignition key repeatedly, but it refuses to start. Eventually, it will create more problems for Duramax to start. In general, starter motor problems can occur in predictable places. So, when it happens, consult with a reputed mechanic to check the system as soon as possible whether it is related to the bad electrical connections, damaged starter components, or lack of power. The following points define things more briefly.

Inspect the wires and cables In general, the corrosion around the battery terminals is preventing the electrical flow to different components of the vehicle to start it. If you are experiencing layers of corrosion around the battery terminals, then clean them with baking soda and warm water. The following points define the process elaborately.      

Take a small container and mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 8 ounces of warm water. Mix the solution thoroughly. After that disconnect the battery terminals and apply the solution to the terminals using a soft brush. Use the solution properly for removing all the dirt and acid from the battery which is commonly responsible for draining the battery power. For checking the electrolyte level, remove the caps from the battery top and make sure that the electrolyte is reaching the bottom of the filler rings. If the electrolyte is not at the correct level, then add distilled water for maintaining its level. At last, reconnect the battery terminals and start the engine again of the GMC Duramax.

Inspect the starter solenoid When the starter motor of the vehicle has any problems, you have to check the connections of the starter solenoid or starter relay. Now the vehicles are using a remote starter relay instead of the solenoid as well as the battery cables are connecting directly to the solenoid or starter

relay. If the solenoid is failed, then the vehicle won't start and inspect it through the below points: 

 

For checking the solenoid, first, you have to disable the starting system by disconnecting the wire from the center of the distributor cap. Due to these reasons, it will prevent the engine from starting. Throughout the process, if you disconnect the wire from the distributor, then ground a bolt on the engine block by using a jumper wire. If you are listening to any sounds from the starter solenoid or relay, then check the assistant of a professional for starting the engine. When you are listening loud clicking sound from the starter motor, then check the wires connected to the starter solenoid or relay. If the wires are loose and disconnected, then it will prevent the flow of electrical current from reaching the starter motor. Replace the starter solenoid for running the engine efficiently.

Inspect the engine flywheel If the starter motor of the GMC Duramax has any problems, then check the engine flywheel with the starter motor. In general, the flywheel is a large and heavy wheel that is located in between the engine and transmission as well as engages the gears to crank the engine. The below points define the things briefly:  

For inspecting the engine flywheel, first, you have to remove the starter motor and set the transmission to Neutral. In this process, rotate the crankshaf by turning the center bolt on the crankshaf pulley by using the breaker bar and a socket. Moreover, the pulley is located at the front and bottom of the engine block. Generally, the pulley is rotating the serpentine belt for running the steering pump, alternator, and other components. According to your vehicle model, remove the wheel for accessing the pulley center bolt. Make sure that the teeth are running in good condition, otherwise, it will prevent the starter motor from cranking the engine. If necessary, then replace the flywheel as soon as possible.

Inspect the starter motor When the starter motor has any problems, you have to inspect the starter motor by raising the front of the vehicle or by removing the intake manifold. If necessary, then consult with a reputed mechanic for checking the starter motor. In this process, use a jack stand and engage the parking brakes as well as block the wheels for preventing the vehicle from rolling.

If the mounting bolts are loose, then keep the starter drive from engaging the flywheel properly. When it happens, you will hear a grinding noise while firing up the engine, and the gear on the starter clash and flywheel unable to mesh smoothly. When the mounting bolts are tight, then you have to remove the starter motor from the GMC Duramax and check the gear at the front of the starter for engaging the flywheel to crank the engine. When it happens, you have to use a screwdriver for rotating the gear in both directions. If it doesn’t move at all or moves in both directions, then replace the starter motor as soon as possible.

Conclusion When the starter motor of the GMC Duramax has any problems, then consult with a mechanic to fix it immediately. If you are living in Jeffersonville, then connect with a certified mechanic for replacing the starter motor of the Duramax.
