For more information about any of these designations visit www.saqa.org.za In order to maintain a professional designation, individuals are required to maintain membership of SACIA or an affiliate body, abide by a code of professional conduct, and participate in a programme of continuing professional development. There are a number of training providers who deliver SACIA‐validated CPD programmes – you’ll see them using the SACIA validated CPD logo to prove their course has been assessed by our Certification Council. In addition, SACIA has partnered with a number of international providers who deliver training to members. Individuals who hold professional designations are required to earn 45 CPD points in a revolving three year period commencing with the award of their designation. These points can be earned through continued employment, participation in training programmes, participation in workshops and seminars, volunteer activity on one of the SACIA Councils and task groups, as well as mentorship and skills‐transfer activities.

Train the trainer Delivered in collaboration with Combined Skills Group This 3‐day ETDP SETA accredited training will provide recognition for individuals who perform or intend to perform training on the job either in small groups or one‐to‐one. The phrase "one‐to‐one training on the job", sometimes also referred to as "coaching", involves a process of working alongside individual learners/ employees to improve their skills in a defined area of application (task). The trainer may provide training for any "task", in any performance area, but such training should be towards some defined performance standard. The training process should involve combinations of explanations and demonstrations of practical activities. On completion of this training, participants would have learned how to: • • • •
Prepare for one‐to‐one training on the job Conduct training sessions, using a variety of methods Monitor and report on learner progress Review training
Formal recognition of this training will enhance employability and provide a means to identify competent trainers or coaches. Course cost:

Assessor training (unit standard 115753] This 3‐day ETDP SETA accredited Assessor training is ideal for those who wish to learn the methods of assessing an outcomes‐based learning programme and for those wishing to improve their assessment skills. This programme equips learners with the necessary knowledge and skill to make effective judgements on a person's competency by means of assessments. On completion of this training, participants would have learned how to: • • •
Demonstrate understanding of outcomes‐based assessment; Prepare for assessments; Conduct assessments within their field of expertise in a fair, valid, reliable and practical manner free from bias and discrimination. • Provide feedback on assessments; and • Review assessments. Formal recognition of this training will enhance employability and provide a means to identify competent trainers or coaches. Requirements: Learners should be competent in the learning area in which they will provide assessment. It is recommended that learners have attended the Train the Trainer course (unit standard 117877 and have at least 14 days workplace experience in training or facilitation. English (both reading and writing) at NQF level 4 is also required. Course cost:

It looks at the terminology, technology and processes which are used in the production and distribution of content. It also includes an overview of the content creation process, from idea to delivery ‐ along with the equipment, people and jargon. Audio & video fundamentals Delivered in collaboration with Training for TV This 3‐day course splits equally between audio and video technology. The audio element starts by exploring how sound and acoustics work, before moving on to explore how audio is created and handled in both the analogue and digital environment. It then explores measurement systems and how audio can be handled in multi‐channel environments from stereo to 5.1. It completes by looking at the practical aspects of sound including microphones, speakers, mixers, effects, equipment and communications systems. The video section starts with an exploration of resolution and scanning systems, interlace and progressive systems and a review of frame rates around the world, completing with a look at synchronisation and reference signals. It then moves on to look at luminance and chrominance signals exploring the human eye and RGB signals as well as our perception of colour and component signals. In the final part, the course explores digital video systems and standards. It also looks at future developments in video technology as UHD and IP transport systems become more prevalent. The course will look at modern production processes and how they can be broken down so that computers and automation systems can control them. It also looks at the terminology and systems which make up the diverse and converging environment which broadcasting, media and IT now share. IP & Networking for Broadcast Professionals Delivered in collaboration with Training for TV The world of broadcast and IT are now intimately linked and almost every aspect of production, creation and delivery is managed and controlled by IT systems. With movement of large files and the need for heavy processing, the requirements of a broadcaster’s IT are somewhat different from those of the average commercial user. Introducing SMPTE ST2022/6 and ST2120 these courses will also explain how the biggest revolution to hit the industry in decades is just starting. There are three versions of the course. A one‐day condensed version for individuals involved in management and facilities; a two‐day course aimed at individuals involved in broadcast operations, and a four‐day course aimed at broadcast engineers. The four‐day course includes hands‐on practical experience for those who will be installing, supporting and maintaining the technology. Managing audiovisual archives: preservation, digitization, valorisation Delivered in alliance with the International Association of Sound & Audio Visual Archives Sooner or later, every professional involved in audio‐visual production should consider the management of archives. This subject is relevant for any kind of organization (television and radio channels, web TV and radios, production companies, archives collections, public services, industrial companies…). Moreover: the archives management becomes a strategic challenge for these organizations, because it relates to their memory and identity. Files formats & compression Delivered under license from Training for TV This two‐day course looks at how we pass video and audio through the broadcast system, and the techniques we use to make this possible. It looks at files and codecs in detail. This involves learning about compression techniques, looking at wrappers and how they are used to put multiple sets of data into a single file, and the metadata which is then used to describe the data. The course will investigate the working principles of lossless and lossy compression techniques and how those are applied to the common codecs we used, from JPEG to H265. With these online self‐study courses, you pick the date, time and location to learn. Now that’s convenience! Once you register for the course, you immediately receive a link to the course where you can access it again and again as your schedule permits. Each course in SBE University is an electronic book that typically includes 8‐14 chapters. At the end of most chapters are quizzes, as well as a final exam at the end, all to help you confirm your knowledge of the material. One great thing about this Internet‐based program is that it keeps track of where you have been in course, including noting the last chapter you viewed. In addition, the program keeps track of the chapters you completed, even if you skipped around.
