Are You a Part of the Social Media Age? Most of us studied in our history classes about the evolution of communication process and about the means through which it was implemented. But seriously, even the inventors would never have imagined that in the coming century's, communication will be the center of growth and development. Why do we communicate with each other? Sometimes to exchange information, sometimes to understand each other, sometimes to entertain ourselves and sometimes even to remind us that we are still part of society, in other words to remind society that we exist. Everyone has their own reasons to communicate. So how do we communicate? We speak to them in person or make use of the technology invented by the great Martin Cooper- cell phones. If you still believe that this is the means we use these days to communicate, then you should open your window to let the new wind come in. Because we are going through the social media age – chronologically Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Historical Period and now the Social media Age – supported by the digital world. What made social media a part of life? Without thinking for a while we can answer that it is the technology and the digital world which led to this point. And social media became a platform that is easily accessible to anyone with internet access. Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Linked In, Pinterest and so on are the main forum which connect people globally. People spend most of their time in social media, some for personal and some for professional uses. Whatever may the motivation, all they look for is to be connected with their people all around. Social media marketing is the professional use of it where people do business while being connected with the world. Consumers of the Social Media Age depend completely on the digital world for their day to day life. This unlocked an entire universe to the marketer who was looking for an opportunity to hit the target group in the highly competitive market outside. Consumers positive responses were obvious in this case. Mark McKinnon says “Technology and social media have brought power back to the people.” While power here means the choice and opportunity that social media provides us in making our decision, be it in buying a product or expressing our point of view. If we connect this with social media marketing, we can understand that an intelligent marketer takes hold of such opportunity to influence the consumer in

their decision making power. This leads to a positive conversion – in marketing terminology – and the marketer get his ROI (return on investment).
