Who doesn’t want it? Being successful? Who doesn’t want to feel the greatness of having accomplished something you dreamed of? I think we all have this desire and the idea of achieving something great. Nevertheless, some people lose courage when they are looking at people who on top of their success. Instead of feeling humble, we can learn from those persons. We can learn what they did to achieve success. After watching many videos and reading many books, I realized that all successful people have one thing in common. They rely heavily on their mind’s strength. What we learn of this is to become successful we have to turn our ordinary mind into a winners mind. Attitudes like positive thinking, pursuing the right goals and purposes, believing in oneself and commitment to what we do have to be installed if we want to get where successful people are. With this purpose, I created a series of blog posts that are all treating the subject that success begins in one’s mind. Let’s start with one of the most fundamental topics in my opinion. Welcome to my blog post “Why you should be aware of your thoughts” :)

Why you should be aware of your thoughts Thinking positive has the great strength to influence our abilities and actions, in a good, but also in a bad way. If you are just building your own business, it is very important that you be aware of your thoughts. While thinking, we are talking to us, and normally we are much harder on ourselves than with anyone else. Imagine a person who didn’t pass an important exam. After getting the results this person may be very frustrated and beating her- or himself down with thoughts like “I am so stupid, I am not worth passing this exam; everyone passed except me. I am so stupid.” Would you ever speak like this with another person? Probably not. However, people do with themselves. They are beating themselves down all the time. And so we lose the belief in ourselves. At some point, we have lost all our self-confidence and think that we are not able to accomplish any of our goals. What a sad story. Now compare this person with a very successful person like Elon Musk, Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg. Do you think the sad person and one of the latter think similarly? I guess not. Take one moment get conscious of your thoughts. This whole mess in your head, every single thought popping up influences how you perceive yourself. If you are thinking positive of yourself and if you feel that you can accomplish whatever you start with, then you are fine. However, if you think in a neutral or even negative way about yourself, then we have to change that to build your basis of success. Being aware of your thoughts is a fantastic starting point to change your mind into a winners mind. When you perceive that you are thinking negative, then consciously stop these thoughts and go on to positive things. What works best for me, for example, is imagining a red “Stop” road sign for a few seconds. Next, I turn my mind to giraffes to distract myself (really!!) and finally I go on with actively revising what I’ve done well today and that I deserve being loved and successful and so on. Another very powerful method is forgiving you for mentally beating you down. You will see, once you’ve started thinking positive it gets easier and easier. “With everything that has happened to you, you can either feel sorry for yourself or treat what has happened as a gift. Everything is either an opportunity to grow or an obstacle to keep you from growing. You get to choose.” – Dr. Wayne W Dyer

3 ways how to become aware of your thoughts 1. Observe your thoughts Observe actively. What kinds of thoughts are popping up? How many of them are “good” or “bad”? Which thoughts are serving you and your goals? Don’t judge yourself for thinking what you think. A thought itself isn’t good or bad. It is what you make out of it that defines if a thought is a good or a bad one. Don’t judge. Just observe.

2. Meditate Meditation is the art of calming down your mind, silencing your thoughts. Meditation helps to get out of stress, for example, or, in our case, to become aware of our thoughts. For me, meditation means having some minutes only for me. While meditating, I explore who I am, what my purpose and goals are and why they are important to me. Additionally, it is scientifically validated that meditation increases the ability to control your mind and also positive emotions.

3. Expand the space between your thoughts This may sound a bit odd to you. In connection with meditation, it is not so hard to understand. While meditating, we are slowing down our mind and the number of thoughts popping up. Sometimes, there are gaps between two thoughts. And we want to enlarge these gaps. Why? To become aware of ourselves we have to separate our mind from its thoughts. We are not our thoughts. We are we and our thoughts are our thoughts. Emptying the mind allows us to recognize who we are. Therefore, we gain control over our mind.

When you are creating your business, be aware of your thoughts. Creating the business and life you dream of takes much time, work and effort. You may feel frustrated because you’re not moving forward as quickly as you would like to, you want to have some results NOW. Be conscious of your mind, become aware of how you think about your business and the work you have to put in. Negative thoughts won’t help you get things done. Think favorable. When you sit down to do some work, actively love what you do. Love what you are doing and remember why you are doing it. You will see, the next it will be much easier to sit down and do some work J Have a great day, Isabelle
