We wish them all a very happy and successful 2009. St. Amands is your local Catholic primary school, with a free bus from Didcot. You are welcome to visit the school at any time. Please contact Debbie in the school office to make an appointment. Applications are welcome from children for all classes. Please remember our school in your prayers. SHELTERBOX As a direct result of the Advent ecumenical carol service that was held in St.Augustine’s this year the best part of £100 was raised for this really worthwhile cause. How good to hear a combined choir too! For those of you who are not familiar with this charity it aims “to provide on a world wide basis humanitarian relief and aid in the form of material and equipment that provides
shelter, warmth and comfort to people displaced by natural and other disasters” These happen worldwide on a daily basis. Floods, earthquakes, wars etc. Often thousands of people are left injured and homeless. Each box provides shelter and warmth for up to 10 people for a prolonged period and contains a large high quality tent, plus blankets and other survival essentials. I am delighted to be able to confirm that the Wantage Rotary club donated the additional funds to ensure that a whole box would be purchased. Thank you to all concerned. Geoffrey Bailey OXFORD NIGHT SHELTERA VERY big thank you to all of you who so generously contributed things for the Oxford Night Shelter, O’Hanlon House. One of the night staff was over the moon about the lovely soaps and smells that people had given as these make the perfect gifts for Christmas. The toothbrushes were set upon as soon as I arrived as the cold weather meant they were absolutely full and in dire need of basic bathroom items. The staff and users really appreciate your thoughtfulness and send heaps of gratitude. Think of them all especially in this cold weather. ECUMENICAL GATHERING AT KINGS MANOR – Wed. 21st January 7.30pmFollowing last year’s very successful gathering during Christian Unity Week at King’s Manor, we are having a repeat session. Anglicans and Catholics in small groups talk and discuss themes taken from a variety of spiritual readings. The evening will be introduced and led by Denis Smith & Geoff Bailey. All those who attended last year said it had been so helpful and encourage those who might not normally come to such a session, to try it.
