Splendora ISD, More Than a Score
Dr. Jeff Burke as Superintendent of Schools
I am honored and privileged to serve as Superintendent of Schools in Splendora ISD. Since I began in 2017, we have seen continued growth, faced numerous challenges, and created and fostered a culture based on our beliefs, values and core principles. We believe that as educators, there are only two things that we can control: the quality of work that we design for our students, and the relationships that we build. In Splendora ISD, we are more than a score. We believe that we are accountable to our parents, students, community and each other for fostering an environment where our students have the opportunity to explore their passions and dreams, and not be limited in those endeavors by what they receive on a standardized test. To that end, we focus on the strengths and talents of our students and our teachers, and we encourage and embrace innovation, design, and a focus on the future. At Splendora ISD, we make every effort to ensure that our students are loved and valued, and that they engage in activities and learning experiences that foster and build confidence, adaptability, perseverance, and self-motivation. We are proud to be a National Showcase District for our Capturing Kids’ Hearts initiative, which helps teach our students how to build positive, appropriate relationships through consistent processes used throughout the district. We want our kids to be able to engage with adults and with each other, understand the importance of advocating for themselves, and to be prepared to be a productive citizen when they leave Splendora ISD. We will continue to build student voice throughout our district, because we believe it is vitally important that our students offer their viewpoints and perspectives. After all, they are the reason we are here.
The Splendora Independent School District Board of Trustees appointed Dr. Jeff Burke as Superintendent of Schools in January 2017. Previously, Dr. Burke was the assistant superintendent of academics in Georgetown ISD in Georgetown, TX for two years, was the Executive Director of Professional Learning and Student Engagement in Alvin ISD, and was the High School Principal in Anderson-Shiro CISD in 2010. Born in Orange, Texas, Dr. Burke graduated from Hardin Jefferson High School and attended Houston Baptist University and Lamar University, before starting his teaching career in 1995 at Little CypressMauriceville CISD. Dr. Burke received his doctorate in educational leadership from Texas A&M University in 2015. Currently, Dr. Burke serves at the state level as a member of the Texas Association of School Administrators membership engagement committee, is on the board of the Texas Association of Mid-Size Schools, and is heavily involved in the Texas Public Accountability Consortium and the Future Ready Superintendents Leadership Network. He is also a local member of the East Montgomery County Rotary and serves on the board of the Greater East Montgomery County Chamber. Dr. Burke began his career in public education in 1995, and is focused on creating and facilitating systems that focus on student engagement through positive relationships and the design of meaningful learning experiences. As the child of two public school educators, Dr. Burke holds true to the belief that public schools are the foundation of our democracy, and that it is our responsibility to look beyond state test scores to the talents, hopes, and dreams of every child. He is honored to serve Splendora ISD as Superintendent of Schools. His wife, Kim, is a reading specialist at Peach Creek Elementary in Splendora ISD and together they have two children: their daughter Tylee, and son Beckett.
