Welcome to Mary of Puddin Hill Home of delicious cakes & confections In 1839 the original “Puddin Hill” in Texas was named A grateful Republic of Texas gave James and Mary Horton 625 acres near Greenville, Texas. It was pouring rain on their first visit and as Mary slogged up a rise through thick, black mud, she said “James, this is like walking in pudding.” James spread his arms wide and answered with a smile, “Well, Mary, welcome to Puddin Hill!” It was on that land that the original Mary baked her now-famous fruitcakes.

In 1948, Sam Lauderdale and his bride Mary Horton opened their fruitcake company Mary used her great-great-grandmother’s same family recipe to bake the cakes that everyone loved. Sam and Mary named the company “Mary of Puddin Hill” of course. They mailed a catalog that became a gift-giving holiday tradition for families across America, filled with delicious goodies. They opened a roadside store too, in Greenville Texas, that for years was a welcome stop for hungry travelers.

In 2015 we moved just a bit south to Palestine Texas Today we’ve joined forces with another grand old Texas baker, Eilenberger’s. Now there are two great Texas family-histories, two great Texas bakeries, under one roof. We’re lovin’ partnering up with our new sister company. And we think you’ll love the result.
