Google Site Collaboration

Collaborating On A Site Collaborating on web sites or web pages can be a powerful tool for teachers. The collaborative feature can be harnessed so teachers can work together to develop a classroom site or a department site.

A page will open to display the public site address. The page also has information about who has access to your web site. Currently the public can view my site and I am the only one that can edit the site. I am listed as the owner.

To collaborate with someone on a web site, you need to give them permission, or they need to give you permission on their site. In your Google Site, look for the Share button on the right. 1

A little further down the page we see a field where we can invite people to view or collaborate on the site. These people should have a gmail account too.

I'll enter the email address of a collaborator. When I enter the address, the box expands to reveal some additional information and options. It automatically gives the invited person permission to edit the site.

2

When we click on the permissions pull down menu we see other permissions. We can decide to grant the person view access only instead of edit permission. This is useful if your site is not viewable to the public. You can make a person the owner of the site. This is useful if you need to transfer ownership of the site to someone else so it can be managed by that person. If you decide to make someone else the owner of the site, you will no longer be able to do a lot of things on the site. Keep this in mind.

Let's leave the permission set to can edit. When we click the send button, the person will receive an email regarding the site and a link to the site.

3

As soon as you click the send button, the account will display under the Who has access section. We can also see the person's permission on the site. This permission can be changed at anytime.

The person will receive an email letting them know about the shared item.

4

The shared site will be available in their Google Sites page. Add more collaborators as needed. Each collaborator will be able to edit the site with most of the same permissions you have when editing the site.

To remove someone from your site as collaborator, click on the 'x' to remove the account.

5

When you delete the account, Google will prompt you to save the changes.
