PROLOG In Dec 2016 I received my Bachelor of Engineering in Architecture with a GPA of 3.52 out of 4.00 from Universitas Gadjah Mada in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Now, I could say that I’m an experienced Junior Architect with a wide variety of works experience. From in studio working on the preliminary design, meeting with the client, and until submission, also field supervising on the ongoing project that really gives me another kind of lesson about architecture. I am a passionate architect through my willingness to learn something new. Besides my architecture academic background, When I studied architecture, I have gained my professional experience through working in small local practice and a well-known architect studio in Jakarta. It helped and influenced me to establish my opinion on what kind of architecture I am interested in. And I believe my experience as a whole learning process. I believe it is essential for the building to be well designed through all the means but what is making it truly outstanding is building which responded to its context. People, nature, environment, culture, social, economy. I believe it is true value its beneficial impact on the local community. I attempt to make my architecture valuable in that way.

In the process of making M BLOC, it not only involved architects. But also cross-disciplines collaborator such as the involvement of artists, musicians, culinary creative actors, and others collaborating in re-displaying the Peruri housing and warehouse complex as part of the Republic of Indonesia’s money printing factory that been idle since 1950’s, into becoming an urban space today that functions as a new Creative Hub for different generations but has the same common thread: creative & collaborative.

OASIS “OASIS” exists as a representation of creative space that projects the creative ecosystem of the creative community that is growing lately. Appoint the concept as a new breath that gives life not only to the balance of the environment but also to the users in it. By creating flexible green open spaces and utilizing recycled plastic materials, “OASIS” creates indoor-external relations that form an unlimited cycle of creativity.

PANCORAN HOTEL

ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO/DIKA ARDI IRAWAN

With the conversion into 8 stories high-end Business and Boutique Hotel, we made the design from the former office tower without interfering with the existing structure of the building. To accommodate other supporting functions, we add a new building mass that connected with the existed building. We use perforated metal sheet panel as a second skin for the existed building faรงade, as an attempt to elaborate building impression without too much interference with the existed building. The new building mass is designed with a modular window balcony faรงade that is simpler than the existing new design but still adds to each other aesthetic value. The quality of the design of the existed building contrast with the simpler design of the new building mass, the co-existence of these different styles of design captures the past and the present into a harmonic design that complements each other. The focus of the main design concept for the interior of the Hotel is Clean Modern Luxurious. We applied a monochrome color palette for the color tone of the ambiance moods. We repeat the perforated metal sheet use into the interior furniture design to add the connection between the exterior and interior design. HOUSE NG House NG tries to collaborate modern architecture with touch and sensation of traditional living. Promoting Nusantara architecture, the house applies limasan roof to transport rain water easily, larve overhangs-cantilever to shades people from direct daylight. The design concludes of large porch, join living-dining-kitchen area to celebrate the joy of eastern communal living. Every bedroom faces open space outside so that every occupants could easily access clean air and daylight. Terrace surrounds the house, projecting flexible event space in the future. Decent space spared on each side of the building and large windows welcome every daylight and facilitate air circulation to flow and cross ventilating. Traditional and tropical living merge into humble architecture of nusantara. In this project i’m responsible on translateing concept into design of this house, and doing architectural drawing. Also, i’m doing the interior design of this house.

In the process of completing this portfolio, I see myself as a person that still needs to learn. Not only formal study but also a learn about the life, about architecture. Because of that, i promised myself to always improving my skill and my personality, to be a better, and better person. Like John Maxwell said that “The greatest enemy of learning is knowing”, then I will always learn something like I haven’t known about that thing so I will never be satisfied with what I have now. Thank you for reading my portfolio. Regards, Dika Ardi Irawan.
