Land Typing

Scientifically delineated and described land types form a basis over which land cover, land use and associated information can be draped for analyses of landscape character, land use change and management. Land types are defined as major physiographic landform units reflecting lithology and tectonic regime, and are frequently bounded by faults or contrasting rock types. Land types involve a nested hierarchy of units (landscape types, land types, landform components) ranging from broad scale to the detailed level of investigation.
