In the past, if I had been asked if I ran, I would have said ‘no way!’ The younger me would have avoided running at all costs due to being unfit and self-conscious.

A few years ago, after having my little girl, I ventured into running and, to my surprise, I liked it! Perhaps it was more the ‘buzz’ that comes from finishing, more than actually having to get out there and do it, however, I was eager to improve, despite often lacked the motivation to persevere with momentum, or to push myself and test my capabilities. Becoming a member of Hampton Harriers running group changed everything for the positive. The group helped me to realise that I am stronger than I think I am, and that even the biggest mental challenges can be overcome with continued effort and focus, and, most importantly, to be able to achieve within your own capability, at your own pace and within your own personal/work schedules. The encouragement and support from Jon & James – the founders - and all the other members, whether via your group posts or on a group run, is great. I had reservations about joining this group and whether it would come with pressures or expectations, but that honestly couldn’t be further from the truth.

I have personally achieved so much over the last year, such as running my first half marathon, and I have also now completed three more, with my furthest distance being 14 miles. All of this whilst improving both my mental and physical health, and none of which I could have achieved without the support of the group and my husband, who is also a member.

I encourage anyone interested in joining Hampton Harriers to do it as you will open yourself up to a group of amazing people who totally understand the pressures and strains of everyday life and who will support you on your running journey. It’s the best thing I did!
