Rare New Zealand Banknotes ~ A Popular Choice for Collectors Building a Discerning Numismatic Portfolio

Presenting a Boutique Selection of Affordable Opportunities in Choice Pre-Decimal Coins!

Revealing some of the most elusive and visually stunning engraved issues produced throughout the Commonwealth, New Zealand Proof and Colour Trial banknotes continue to attract strong interest from collectors and investors both in Australia and overseas. Few were printed and in some cases there are only a handful known to exist, which makes any appearance on the numismatic market cause for celebration and a rapid response to avoid missing out on an exceptional rarity.

While other asset classes tend to struggle in tough economic times and the share market proves volatile, the Australian rare coin market has demonstrated great buoyancy with steady growth and record levels achieved in many instances. Quality Pre-Decimal coins from across the decades have held their own as buyers appreciate their past and potential performance, craftsmanship, and pleasures of owning a historic piece. Slabbed coins are professionally graded and authenticated.

Extremely Rare Colour Trial ~ Less than 11 Known Colour trials, presented to the issuing bank for appraisal, were printed in very small numbers making this particular example an extraordinary opportunity for the investment-wise buyer and zealous collector. The Bank of New Zealand (1861-1992) became the largest in the country and by 1865 had issued more than twice the number of notes of the second largest bank, which eventually rose to more than three times.

Printer’s Proofs in High Demand With only limited examples known to exist, Printer’s Proofs are a prominent investment collectors can’t afford to ignore. Private trading banks like The Colonial Bank of New Zealand sprang up everywhere in the country in the mid-19th century. Founded in 1874 and merged with the Bank of NZ after 21 years, The Colonial was the last of the early minor trading banks to close. It’s NZ’s seventh rarest for banknotes.

Great Russian Minds gets underway with a coin depicting Nikolai Gogol, the Ukrainian-born Russian playwright and novelist who was born 200 years ago in 1809. The design portays three of Gogol’s famous characters: Taras Bulba (Novel ‘Taras Bulba’), Khlestakov (Play ‘The Government Inspector’) and Patsyuk (Short story of Christmas Eve).
