A Stunning Five-Coin Series Boasting Colourful Indigenous Designs

Robert O’Hara Burke and William John Wills are legendary historical figures of colonial Australia. The first European settlers to cross the Australian continent from south to north, their triumph turned to tragedy when both men died on the return leg. The ‘dash’ to the Gulf of Carpentaria, still more than 1,200 kilometres away, fell tantalisingly short. After their immense effort, the failure by Burke and Wills to break through the coastal mangrove swamp meant they never actually laid eyes on the sea. Torrential rain, sapping humidity and meagre rations severely hampered the group’s return.

An Immaculate Commemorative Coin Remembering Australian Icons!

The coin’s reverse portrays a representation of an exhausted and bedraggled Burke and Wills. Coloured elements of the design depict a camel and a stylised tree in fading sunlight. A spectacular 150th anniversary tribute to two brave colonial explorers. Housed in Presentation Case and Illustrated Shipper The Perth Mint

Royal Australian Mint Salutes Australia’s Heritage

2010 Year of the Tiger Stamp and Coin Cover $1 Al/Br Unc Coin and Stamps ~ Popular Theme!

2010 100th Anniv. of Aust Numismatic History $1 Silver Proof Coin ~ Only 12,500 Minted!

The Perth Mint has struck a commemorative $1 coin for exclusive inclusion in Australia Post’s 2010 Year of the Tiger postal and numismatic cover. This stamp and coin cover features Australia Post’s seal of authenticity and an official number. Those born in 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998 or 2010 come under the Year of the Tiger.

The year 2010 marks the centenary of Australian coinage. In 1910, nine years after Federation, the Australian Government issued the first coins that were truly Australian. Prior to this, our monetary system was based on that of the British, which in turn was established to replace a checkered history of various coinage, tokens and promissory notes.

The coin’s reverse depicts a tiger reclining under a tree. The design includes the inscription ‘Year of the Tiger’, the Chinese character for ‘tiger’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.

Avid coin collectors won’t be able to resist this marvellous offering, celebrating 100 years of Australian currency history.

Affixed to the envelope are $1.65 and 55c stamps from Australia Post’s Christmas Island Lunar New Year Series. Both stamps, which bear designs based on the Chinese character for ‘tiger’, are postmarked 12 January 2010, the day this stamp and coin cover is released.

2010 Frédéric Chopin 1oz $1 Silver Proof Second Series Release ~ Only 5,000 Minted!

Born in Poland 200 years ago on 1 March 1810, Chopin was a gifted child performer who played his first public concert at the age of eight. After studying at the Warsaw Conservatory, he embarked on an extensive European tour, arriving in Paris in 1831, where he earned enough income as a piano tutor to spend the majority of his time composing. Chopin’s mazurkas, polonaises, preludes, études, nocturnes, ballades, impromptus and many other works have been described as the richest and most influential legacy left to the piano repertoire by any individual composer. He died on 17 October 1849, a victim of tuberculosis.
