Collectors Often Become Successful Investors Some of the world’s most successful numismatic investors actually started out as collectors. British collector of milled coins Peter Hanger, started collecting as a child at the end of World War II. Examples from his collection realised exceptionally high prices at auction last year. In the United Kingdom in 2003, a selection of 50 coins from a collection of English coins acquired during the 1940s and 1950s at a cost of £2,395 sold for £468,967. An American collector reportedly purchased a collection of US gold coins for $13,832 in the early 1950s which was resold at auction in 1978 for $1.2 million. The private collection of renowned Australian numismatist the late Peter Wall, sold in its entirety, without reserves, in just one day last year. It was one of the most important single owner collections ever sold in Australia.

Choice Quality Commonwealth Pre-Decimals Remain One of the Top Numismatic Performers

Commemorative RAM Releases in Big Demand 2009 International Year of Astronomy 6-Coin Uncirculated Year Set ANDA Show Special ~ Only 1,500 of each minted!

Historically recording outstanding investment growth over many decades, Australia’s Pre-Decimal banknotes have retained their integrity as premium numismatic investments and collectables. Despite the fluctuating economy not just in recent times, but in previous decades, they have proven to be a formidable investment choice, opposing the trend of mainstream investments by continuing to steadily appreciate in value.

Only a limited number of the exclusive special edition 2009 “International Year of Astronomy” uncirculated coin sets with the official Australasian Numismatic Dealer’s Association (ANDA) overprint on the outer sleeve are still available.

Visual Appeal and History Enhance Value The intricate designs and historic worth of our PreDecimal banknotes have played key roles in their steadily rising values. This note formed part of the ‘Harrison Issue’ named in recognition of Australian Note Printer T.S. Harrison.

Released at the 2009 Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne ANDA Coin, Banknote and Stamp Shows, the sets include a unique 20-cent coin featuring a vivid image of stargazers.

1926 George V Kell / Collins Ten Shilling Note

The actual set was released to celebrate the 2009 International Year of Astronomy, which coincided with the 400th anniversary of Galileo Galilei’s first astronomical observation through a telescope. ANDA is the governing body representing numismatics throughout Australasia.

Examples of Market Performance A 1933 Five Pound Uncirculated banknote forming part of a selected portfolio of 10 Australian coin and banknote rarities was worth $27.50 in 1967 and revalued in 2001 at $10,000. Only late last year a 1936 Ten Shilling note valued at $3,000, realised more than $6,000, while a 1942 Ten Shilling pair estimated at $1,400 sold for $1,922. Most quality Pre-Decimals continue to achieve above estimate at auctions with demand heightened by the limited availability of superior material.
