E T H N O M E T H O D O LO GY In architecture we realize that there is a chasm between the designed function and the true use. Ethomethodology observe the way people act in everyday life in order to make conclusions about the way people form communities. In architecture is called to explicate the human behaviour, which is not directly recognizable, so that we can understand what is the impact of certain spaces in humans and in general how we can improve the way we design. During the investigation, were recorded the activities of the different groups of people who were in the square, the paths of the visitors, the intensity of their movement and their behaviour.

REFERENCES The following projects worked as an inspiration and references in order for the presentation of the activities that were captured in the square during the study.

eMotion, mapping museum experience

EMotion researches how the museum and the installations effect and affect the behaviour of the visitors. The fielding took place in the Art Museum (Kunstmuseum) St.Gallen, Switzerland, in 2009. Visitors who wanted to take part in the project, did receive a dataglove at the exhibition entrance that included several signalling and measurement sensors. The dataglove, allowed for the precise measurement of the path of each individual through the museum, their speed, their time spent in front of a picture/object. source: http://www.mapping-museum-experience.com

MADRID 6

The chosen square is Agustin Lara in Lavapies, a neighbourhood in the center of Madrid. Lavapiés has a higher concentration of immigrants than any other neighbourhood in Madrid. It has always been a humble barrio, which until the 1980s was home to mostly elderly people who lived in the typically Madrileño ‘corralas’ – apartment blocks mostly built around an interior staircase. These days, thanks to the cheap rent in comparison to that of other areas, and the multiculturalism, young people are attracted to the area, and they live alongside people from some 90 different nationalities. In addition, there are a number of neighbourhood associations and self-managed centres which host a lot of cultural events, which are quite popular in this barrio and always supported by the locals. The square Agustin Lara was designed by the architect J.I.Linazasoro in 2004 along with the rehabilitation of the Escuelas Pias, a library in the north side of the square. The square is facing the library and the pedestrian road between them. In the other sides is surrounded by 2 pedestrian roads and residential buildings and a one direction street. It is developed in different levels creating various zones which are connected through ramps and stairs.
