Mozambique Preschool _ Archistorming competition.

Kakouris M. | Stathoulopoulos D. The preschool center in Xai-Xai District in Mozambique is designed thoroughly in order to serve the young, vulnerable students of the local community. The biggest goal is to create a safe and living environment and eventually make more and more young children in the area attend school and have access to education. The school is centered around a big yard which is consisted of the main atrium, the covered yard and the small atrium, all linked together and function as a one open space. The six classrooms are placed around the main atrium, taking advantage of the natural light and allowing the wind flow easily through them. The big yard -as the rest of the building- takes advantage of the topography and the slight slope of the plot, needing no stairs, and creating a clear and safe space for the children.

[2019] | Emerging as new, living as always_ An experimental approach to habitation [Thesis] Dimtsas A. | Stathoulopoulos D. The solution: Designing an experimental housing model adapts to data with realistic intentions by adapting new technological requirements to sustainability and how they interact with the spatial structures needed to create new housing. An experimental settlement with a community structure aiming at rebuilding the city's housing in combination with the natural environment. Neighborhoods consisting of renewable energy, water management and resource-based waste disposal systems.

[2018] | Cloud _ Norway's literature pavilion in Frankfurt. Mendez J.| Ikonomova M. | Stathoulopoulos D. | Νοmo Studio Our vision has been to continue on the ‘dream’ and create a landscape filled with dreams and mystery. A landscape that is both Norway and the dream of it, that exists in reality, as well as in the books that describe it. The forest is central, and a clear and direct connection to Norway as a country, but it also gives visitors a deeper meaning, a feeling that something more is hiding in the forest. Is it a mystery? Do we find ourselves in a crime novel? A long winding book table becomes a companion throughout the exhibition and acts as a guide and red thread. The table provides constant contact with the books and becomes a natural meeting place.

The new Art Museum in Kristiansand, Norway is a valuable landmark that embodies the history and identity of the entire area. Our intention in this work was to let the structure signify its meaning and function through an architectural expression and the use of local materials. The overall layout of the museum is based on connections to the city, linking various surrounding areas into one general plan where all traffic is linked to a unified structure. Â The Museum's design approach is based on rationality and sustainability. The simplicity of the geometry with the characteristic orthogonal shapes makes traffic and internal organization clear and flexible. The public areas are clearly separated from the administration areas, which are located on both the basement and the ground floor.

[2015] | Vacation House _ Country house in Chania for a typical four-member family. Kakouris M. | Stathoulopoulos D. | Vozikis A.

With the building’s boundaries blurred, interior space transforms to outdoors, the meaning of “dwelling”, as we understand it, is abolished, and a new lifestyle is adopted, which directs its inhabitants towards living outdoors. Summer in Chania, with its typical Mediterranean climate, obviously promotes direct contact with Nature. That is: direct contact with its elements, the sun, the sea, the mountain breeze…

[2018] | Cook 8 _ A dining area for eight people. Dimtsas A. | Stathoulopoulos D. The process of preparation and consumption occupy a large part of human day. Through the dining and the way it is done, social relationships, conversations are created, and in general it is a means of communication between people. The space in which it takes place, the people who share it, play an important part of this acting. It is no coincidence, after all, that at times dining, in the broadest sense, has been a separate rite in various parts of the world. A dining area is the reason for new beginnings. In the dining room, it is important for the person to feel comfortable, not only for themselves but also for the rest whom they share the room. Intimacy was a key element in the design of this proposal. The creation of a ‘hug’, with a common dining and preparation area separated from the moving areas.

We believe that design should in itself drive the communication of the participants, in a discreet and non-coercive way. Creating a unified space that succeeds a semicircular ramp, isolates and separates the eight from the environment but at the same time unites them around the manufacturing site, the fireplace.

The circular shape is the result of tests aimed at equal distance as well as the visibility of the eight, giving it a sense of embrace, with the ultimate goal of familiarity and ensuring the ideal conditions for direct communication. The seconndary spaces, as a continuation of the geometry of the two imaginary circles and the displacement of their centers, which is the central idea of the composition, are integrated with the main space through the roof as well as the same plane which is separated from the semicircular ramp of the basic movement .

[2016] | Arthrosis _ Cultural integration in a neglected area. Kakouris M. | Stathoulopoulos D. The Arthrosis project is a series of interventions and buildings of various uses in a neglected neighborhood in Thessaloniki. The lack of social and cultural activities and the inability of the local people to engage to cultural events, made it almost necessary to create an area for the community. The central square is bounded between two spaces with the most public character, the theater and the restaurant. It combines a passage and staging areas, acting as a link of the two basic forms, constituting an attraction for passerby and residents.

[2017] | Wooden Cabin _ Playground construction for kids. Dimtsas A. |Kakouris M. | Stathoulopoulos D. | Vozikis A. This is a small construction in our backyard in Alepochori, Greece for my little cousins and their friends. Designed and completed within a week during the Summer of 2017. It is a little wooden house between the trees for John and Katerina, the spot that they needed to be theirs in the yard during summer. The success of the project was that it was higly appreciated and used by the first day!
