DÍNAMO is a non-governmental & non-profit youth organization born in Sintra (the municipality in Portugal with the largest number of young people after Lisbon) with a mission to promote and enhance youth participation in civil society. Dínamo is mostly composed of young people between 15 and 30 years. DÍNAMO WORKS IN YOUTH PARTICIPATION IN DIFFERENT DIMENSIONS:
Promoting activities targeting young people;
Supporting young people in their initiatives;
Providing learning opportunities trough voluntary service;
Promoting the quality of participation in youth organizations;
Supporting young people’s participation in decision-making processes;
Promoting good practices and co-management mechanisms involving young people.
In 2011, DÍNAMO initiated the implementation of its strategy for youth participation “SINTRA IS ALSO YOURS!” - funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and officially recommended by the Council of Europe - to be finished in 2016. AMONG THE PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES PROMOTED BY DÍNAMO ARE:
trainings - local, international, residential and nonresidential;
youth & community initiatives;
youth exchanges Exchanges - local and international;
volunteer service learning processes - local and international;
youth democratic citizenship processes;
seminars - local, international, residential and nonresidential.
The topics tackled in DÍNAMO’s activities include: participation, human rights, democratic citizenship, youth policies, social inclusion, diversity, intercultural learning, theatre, theatre of the oppressed, advocacy, etc. In addition to local projects, DÍNAMO also promotes international projects in collaboration with a large network of partners and institutions such as the European Commission, the Council of Europe and the European Youth Foundation. DÍNAMO follows transversely - in its activities and processes - the principles of non-formal education. DÍNAMO is an accredited organization in the National Register of Youth Associations (RNAJ), a member of Youth for Exchange and Understanding, an international network of the Anna Lindh Foundation and the local group (i)Nova Tapada (Parish Social Committee Algueirão Mem-Martins). DÍNAMO haves active representatives in the National Youth Council and the Youth in Action National Agency pools of trainers.
