The Council of Foreign Residents What is the Council of Foreign Residents ? The Council of Foreign Residents is a place of proposals and debates, to involve foreign residents in the decisions of the city, contributing in fighting racisme, and promoting the right to political speech for all people of Strasbourg. Why a Council of Foreign Residents ? The city of Strasbourg is rich with all the nationalities that compose it. Foreign residents participate to the economic, social and cultural life of the city. However, foreign residents (non-EU), don't have the possibility to express themselves in the electoral framework. To fight against this inequality and give a voice to all people of Strasbourg, the City Council of Strasbourg created in 2009 the Council of foreign residents (CFR). How it works ? The CFR is composed of people drawn among foreign residents volunteers (non-EU), and representatives of associations referring to immigration. All members of the CFR are volunteers, and the mandate is of 3 years renewable. A call for applications is done before each renewal. The CFR meets at least two times a year in plenary, to adopt resolutions involving the CFR and to set working guidelines. To communicate, build projects, conducte field activities, the CFR is based on committees and working groups. Members of CFR that are interested, can participate. There are currently five committees within the CRE: culture urban equality communication access to rights and fight against discriminations school and university life Each committee provides specific goals , carries out projects , and reports on its activity in plenary. The newspaper " Becoming the new generations " also provides a place for committees to reported on the progress of their work.
