1. General Information about the TC Gyumri “Youth Initiative Centre” (YIC) NGO is inviting you to take part in the “URA – You are Able” international Training Course on Volunteering as a mechanism for increasing youth employability. The project is implemented with the support of the “Youth in Action” Programme of the European Union. The aim of the TC is to promote volunteering as a mechanism for increasing youth employability. The objectives of the project are: Provide youth workers and youth leaders with knowledge, skills and tools on recruitment, retainment, and recognition and reward of voluntary work; Reflect upon types of voluntary activities that lead to youth capacity development and increased competitiveness in the job market; Introduce mechanisms for structured tracking of voluntary work as a learning process; Share best practices on volunteering and youth employability in different European countries; Build partnership among civil society organizations from the Programme and Neighboring Partner countries concerning volunteering and youth employability. /see the draft agenda on the next page/ 1.

Venue & Accommodation
The TC will be held in Gyumri – the second largest city in Armenia. Located in the northern part of the country, Gyumri is believed to be the cultural capital of the country. Follow the link to get an overview of the city: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyumri To promote intercultural learning and the direct contact with the host community and to stimulate the experience of EVS volunteers hosted inn Gyumri, you will stay the 1st two days with a host family. The host families are chosen from the volunteers and staff members of YIC NGO. The TC will be held in Berlin Art Hotel – the most artistic hotel in Armenia. Travel:

Arrival: You will be picked up at “Zvartnots” International Airport, Yerevan (http://zvartnots.am/ ), according to your travel details and taken to Gyumri – the second largest city in Armenia where the TC will be held. There will be one of the organizers with the sign of YIC at the airport. The participants are required to arrive -
in Yerevan on 14th of October, by 17:00 p.m.
Note! Although the official start of the training is October 15, we expect everyone to be in Gyumri for the first common dinner and welcome evening on the 14th of October at 20:00. As soon as you have your tickets, please send us your travel details, so that we arrange your meeting at the airport and transfer to the training venue. The participants will be met at the airport by the organizers and will be taken to the host families. If you arrive early in the morning and prefer to go sightseeing around Yerevan, you will have to take care of your travel to Gyumri yourself.

Departure: On 21st of October, all the participants will be taken to Yerevan by the organizers. If you decide to stay in Yerevan longer, the programme will not cover your accommodation costs but can help you in finding an affordable lodging.

Reimbursement:
The organisers will reimburse 70% of your travel costs from your home city to the pick-up point (Yerevan) in Armenia. Reimbursement of travel costs will only be done upon full attendance in the TC activity and presentation of the original tickets with boarding passes and receipts/invoices. Visa Arrangement:
The visa is available in the airport; single entry visa for short stay /21 days/ costs 3000 AMD (approximately 6 EUR). Visa expenses will be reimbursed 100%.

Things to bring: Please be prepared to present your organisation during the TC; take promotional & PR materials to give an overview of your organization during the market. Do not forget to bring some national drinks and snacks for the intercultural banquette, and prepare yourself for the intercultural
night through dances and songs. We will not be able to use PowerPoint Presentations and videos but you can burn them on DVD or share with other participants electronically.

Homework
As part of the preparation process for the TC, you are to do the following: Shoot a short video on volunteering in your country – the situation, its perceptions in the community, impact, etc. /max 3 minutes/. You can involve local and international volunteers, organizations, local community. Bring data on youth unemployment situation in your country and your community. Be prepared to present the national and local strategies for combating youth unemployment. Below are guiding questions you should answer in your homework document: Official and non-official youth unemployment rate; Is there a specific policy on combating youth unemployment and how is it implemented (special education programmes, qualifications, internships, stipend for unemployment, etc)? Who are the main actors in combating youth unemployment (universities, civil society, government, employment agencies, etc.)?

Communication:
Internet Access: You will have WiFi and cable internet access at the hotel where you are staying /starting the 2 nd day of the TC/.
Sim Cards/Mobile Phones: In case you need a Mobile/Sim card with Armenia number, please ask for it just after your Passport Control at the airport and you will get it free of charge. There are 3 main operators in Armenia;

Money: The Armenian Currency is called ARMENIAN DRAM. Banknotes: 1 000 DRAM; 5 000 DRAM; 10 000 DRAM; 20 000 DRAM; 50 000 DRAM and 100 000 DRAM. As Coins DRAMS in low sum are being used, such as 10 DRAM, 20 DRAM, 50 DRAM, 100 DRAM, 200 & 500 DRAM.

In the shops US dollars and Euros are not taken. However there are many places you may exchange money in. The ATMs are widely spread. However the interest is taken for cashing if using ATM. In public transport and local shops, they take just cash.

Weather October is a transmission season between summer, autumn and winter, so it is rather unpredictable. For an accurate information on the weather, make sure you look up the weather in GYUMRI at www.weather.com
