Science Week General Schedule Week 1
Human Body Week
Join us as we study the digestive, circulatory, skeletal and nervous systems. Campers will perform investigations, and instructors will provide demonstrations that will unlock the mysteries of the human body. Campers will make a life size take home cut out of themselves. The cut out will travel through the week with the campers as they add organs, bones, nerves and muscles.
Week 2
Chemistry Geek Week
Through demonstration and experimentation campers explore the chemistry of solubility, density, crystals, oxidation-reduction, and chemiluminescence. Campers will be introduced to the basic concepts of atoms, elements, compounds and mixtures through a variety of hands on activities.
Week 3
Wonders of the Watershed Week
Campers will be introduced to stream and river ecosystems through our study of the Wissahickon Creek. Fish, hike, and canoe right outside our classroom door. Explore the variety of marine life along the creek on our campus. Learn about the ways that acid rain and pollution may threaten our fragile ecosystems, and ways to help preserve our environment. Play the water cycle game and follow the flow of various components of the water cycle on their way back to the ocean.
Week 4
Ancient Earth Week
How old is the Earth? Is global warming causing climate change? How did the first life forms appear on Earth? Campers will discover the answers to these questions while they dig for fossils and learn about geological rock. We will take a tour through past eras, from the Pre-Cambrian to the Cenozoic periods, and investigate the theory of biogenesis.
