How I Spent My Summer Holidays BY DAVID WEVILL
The first half of summer consisted of mainly recovering from second year. (soooo much stress) (dying)
Unfortunately, I didn’t go on Holiday like a lot of people did...
In fact I spent most of my summer playing Super Smash Bros...
lots
and lots...
of Smash Bros...
Not the most productive way to spend your summer, I know...
BUT! I also worked out some stuff involving my extended practice!
...sort of
Okay, with regards to extended practice I haven’t got loads prepared, but I have a relatively simple story in mind for it, as well as a couple character designs.
I even made this gif!
(mondays‌)
My focus at the moment is getting more people to collaborate on it.
I know who and what I need to make this pilot so I just need to find anyone that’s ready and willing.
In terms of my dissertation... I was expecting a lot of this:
And that’s what I thought at the end. But I realised after staring at a blank document and my pile of books that I hogged all Summer only to read a couple of them, I got to think more about my project. I looked at the proposal feedback a lot, and even asked Jeff, one of the old third years, for some sage wisdom. I flip-flopped a lot about what my title should be, because I wrote it multiple ways during summer and wasn’t happy with any of the notes or plans for the essay. I think I have a pretty good idea about what it’s going to be like now.
I saw some amazing films Like Pixar’s new masterpiece of godlike proportions, Inside Out
And some‌ meh films Like the rather good but clearly lamed out Ant Man
And I FINALLY watched Breaking Bad Which was an awesome, amazing show that everyone should watch.
I also decided to do more drawings I mean I haven’t exactly practiced that much, and even little random doodles should be enough to get me to improve. Here a few that I’ve done through summer:
I think I developed my art style a bit too. I mean I’m still taking lessons from John Kricfalusi’s (creator of Ren & Stimpy) blog. I think I’m going back to sort of my older style with little sprinkles of his look in there. It’s less derivative now, I find, but it still takes his principles into consideration.
Plans for this year I was skeptical about going for an internship for money reasons. However, because my mother is cool, and awesome, and I love her, she said she be happy to be paying for whatever I might need for this, including living funds that the internship may not cover. So my goal for this year is to build up my portfolio/demo reel and just go for the internship. This will include finally taking up life-drawing classes, learning more about software I’ve previously had trouble with (*stares at Photoshop*), some more 11 second club or loop-de-loop stuff, acting, and storytelling (not just extended practice but maybe some little stuff on the side). Just anything as long as it can go in my portfolio/showreel. I might also try developing my networking skills so that I can, god-forbid, do some freelance work on the side.
Other than all that, I just plan on being in a more hardworking and uplifting mood this year.
Any questions!?
