a look inside with passion and pride JOHN AND LENA KOPRIVNJAK WHO ARE NOW BASED BETWEEN SYDNEY AND NELSON BAY HAVE RECENTLY OPENED A FABULOUS NEW RESTAURANT CALLED THE ADRIATIC RESTAURANT ON THE BAY. But why choose such a name and such a menu? Because the couple are Croatian and Armenian which brings a combined food experience from the top of the Adriatic, Venice, Italy and Croatia down to Greece and to the Mediterranean. The number one eating experience they have missed while back in Australia is the wood charcoal grill or “Gradele Cooking” of fish, octopus, squid and calamari. Cooking over a fire takes you back to the original food, how it tastes, how it smells and how it feels. Food you don’t need to do much to by just allowing it to release its own smell and natural flavours. Nelson Bay is surrounded with water, good fishing and a boating life style with a first class marina and shops which reminded them of many towns they have visited along the Croatian Coast like Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar and Trogir. The Adriatic offers a welcoming atmosphere with filtered water views when dining alfresco and has been beautifully designed by the couple and boasts travertine marble dominance accented with dark colours resembling the old castle/fortress towns in Croatia which dot the coastline.
The menu is wide and goes through all the stages of cooking of fish soup, mezza platter, pasta marinara, black ink risotto, and the rare wood charcoal grill itself lays the secret to amazing, steak, lamb, chevapi, fish, shellfish, duck and quail which are all delicately char grilled. Desserts are also of a traditional nature with Croatian pancakes “palachinke”,
apple strudel and chocolate hazelnut cake with wild berry sorbet topping the favorites of the menu. Lena is the manager while John is the main taster and wine buff and has other interests in Sydney. He is close friends with restaurateurs owners of the Wildfire Restaurant, Mercato E Cucina Restaurant Gladesville and Balkan Restaurant in Crown and Oxford street.

Vintage and classic car displays, a RAAF flyover and a sail past with live music all day. GAME FISH INTERCLUB TOURNAMENT Weekend 1: 26 - 28 February 2016 Weekend 2: 5 - 6 March 2016 Port Stephens is home to the biggest Game Fishing Tournament in the Southern Hemisphere. Enjoy the characters as they come from near and a far for this amazing event. The tournament has approximately 200+ vessels and 1000 anglers and will showcase an annual sail past which will commence at 7.15am from Dutchmans Bay.
