hunter valley

Today, the Hunter Valley is certainly one of Australia’s most well-known wine regions, which, since its foundation, has produced many fine, world recognised wines. There are over 120 wineries producing a wide array of exceptional wines reflective of their origin. Whilst Hunter Valley Wine Country is famous for its great wines, there are also a number of other activities to discover and enjoy. From beautiful art galleries, gardens, bicycle tours & hot air ballooning, there are a myriad of things to do. When visiting the Hunter Valley, most people don’t want to leave, and why would you? With amazing wines, fabulous local produce & quality restaurants, cosy accommodation properties, quaint galleries showcasing talented local artists & gorgeous scenery. Whilst it is the Hunter Valley as a whole that is recognised and remembered as a world-class wine region and tourism destination, the region is made up of a number of small communities, townships and localities. Each of them has their own secrets to reveal and can be discovered on their own or as part of a Hunter Valley trail. Broke Fordwich is home to boutique wineries and quality country accommodation with splendid vistas. Exceptional wines, fine restaurants and a gourmet selection of local produce make a visit to this area a must. East of Pokolbin you will discover Lovedale. Known for its community of boutique wineries, cellar doors, quality accommodation, restaurants and unique galleries, Lovedale is also were the now famous Lovedale Long Lunch takes place every year in May. Pokolbin/Rothbury forms the epi-centre of Wine Country. It is where most of the Hunter Valley’s first vineyards were planted and were you will find the largest collection of wineries, accommodation houses, restaurants and activities. And, of course, you will also find many of the original families here. Mount View is one of the most idyllic and scenic parts of the Hunter Valley. Enjoy Mount View Road, from the south-eastern end of Pokolbin south to Millfield Village. The road winds its way around the breathtakingly beautiful Brokenback Range and reveals vistas you’ll just have to capture.

Wollombi Village is famed for its heritage colonial architecture and is the gateway to the convict trail, National Parks, boutique wineries and museums. Dalwood is located off the New England Highway. You will find these small village centres displaying historic architecture, arts & crafts stores and friendly locals. Dalwood is also the site of the Hunter Valley’s first grapevines and you will find links to the area’s history at Wyndham Estate. Cessnock is just of the F3 Freeway and is Wine Country’s hub for business and shopping. Here you will find everything you need from groceries, gifts, fashion and the Performing Arts Centre as well as the essential services including post office and banks. There are also several accommodation options, restaurants, cafés and pubs.

This is your chance to start a new chapter and unearth another world. Step into the historic town of Morpeth, the Hunter Valley’s premier boutique shopping and dining venue. “You can read in the pages of Elizabeth David’s cookbooks about country food that is simple, generous, homely and comforting, or you can sally forth to the Hunter Valley’s very first vineyard, Wyndham Estate, and experience it first-hand. Tables and chairs under the shelter of the glorious sandstone winery veranda overlook the sweeping lawn amphitheatre where the annual Opera in the Vineyards is staged. The country cooking is remarkably deft, served on pretty, old-fashioned china gleaned from op shops and markets.” The Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide 2013 Open Saturday 12-3pm and Sunday 10am-3pm Wyndham Estate Winery, 700 Dalwood Road, Dalwood via Branxton 2335 www.olivetreerestaurant.com.au Ph: 02 4938 1831

Passion, pride and a look inside…

“Understated, elegant wines… if you’re heading this way; this is a set-up worth visiting. For ambience, it sits alongside the Hunter’s best.” Rick Allen, September 2011 Established in 1990 by Guy and Sandra Vinden, Vinden Estate Wines is a family-owned, boutique Hunter Valley winery and vineyard with an exceptional reputation among Sydney’s top sommeliers. Located in Pokolbin, Hunter Valley, we supply many of Sydney’s Hatted restaurants, including Quay,Aria, and Bécasse. We produce small quantities of premium wine on-site at our Hunter Valley vineyard and winery from hand-picked grapes using the traditional methods of open fermentation, hand plunging and basket pressing. Our range of wines includes the Hunter Valley’s only Alicante Bouschet (a light dry rosé), as well as the classic Hunter Valley wine varietals of Semillon, Basket Press Shiraz, Verdelho, Chardonnay, Premium Merlot, Late Harvest Dessert Wine and Liquer Semillon. Our wine is sold on-premise only at our stylish Pokolbin, Hunter Valley cellar door, where you will find our service friendly and informative. We offer delicious homemade food at our restaurant, Bistro Vinden, and accommodation on-site at the vineyard in our Vinden Estate Homestead. Bistro Vinden opened in September 2010 for lunch at our Pokolbin, Hunter Valley vineyard on Saturdays and Sundays, giving diners the opportunity to enjoy an alfresco lunch that includes our specialty dishes like Vinden Seafood, Beef with Asian Mushrooms and Veal Saltimbocca while taking in the magnificent views on the terrace overlooking our Hunter Valley vineyard. Our children Angus, Gabby and Ben have been a constant presence at the Hunter Valley vineyard since their early childhood years. They have increased their involvement in the business as they have become older, ensuring Vinden Estate Wines maintains its unique standing as a family-owned, boutique Hunter Valley vineyard.
