The restoration of Torri Mamo was recently completed by Din l-Art Ħelwa. This The restoration of Torri Mamo was recently completed by Din l-Art Ħelwa. The Mamo family were master builders of the Order of St John and they were granted the right to build a fortified family home in 1657 after building several fortifications for the Order. The family and their neighbours would take shelter within it—together with their animals— when marauding pirates were seen approaching the bay of St Thomas. Hence its internal domed hall was built ‘a prova di bomba’. This circular hall, is an ideal setting for small events, family reunions and camping in its historic moat. Bookings are readily being accepted through admin@dinlarthelwa.org The restoration of Torri Mamo was made possible by a LEADER programme grant for restoration of cultural assets in rural areas, through the Xlokk Local Action Group Foundation and the Co-Financing Fund for NGOs of the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector. The Funding teams in these foundations have been very helpful and Din l-Art Ħelwa is grateful to them for guiding us through these applications.
