Thank you for raising over $26.3 Million!
LETTER FROM BISHOP QUINN Most Reverend John M. Quinn, Bishop of Winona
Dear Friends in Christ, It has been 2 years since we launched the five-year capital campaign, Rooted in Faith, Rejoice in Hope! I am so grateful
to report that a total of more than $26 million has been pledged and after only two years nearly 50% of the funds have been collected and distributed according to your gift designations. In May 2013, when the campaign was officially launched, no one could have predicted the hurdles we would face. But you, the faithful people of the Diocese, once again showed your love for Jesus Christ and His Church.
1. Make prayer a focal point for all our endeavors. 2. Deepen our practice of stewardship as a way of life; share responsibility for the mission of the Church. 3. Invite everyone to support the priesthood by replenishing the retirement fund, upgrading our seminary and funding vital ministries of the Diocese of Winona.
As you know, I felt compelled to make sure that our priests – who have given their lives of priestly service to the Church – are cared for appropriately during their retirement years. In addition, it is incumbent on all of us to encourage, educate and provide vibrant formation for a new generation of priests at Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary. These are the young men who will serve as shepherds of God’s flock for generations to come. We also recognized that there are many local needs at the parish level. To address some of those needs, each parish identified projects to fund and a portion of the proceeds from the campaign is being applied to those needs. Individual projects are planned and underway to fortify the many ministries, programs and facilities that make up the core of our Diocese. Every family in the Diocese was asked to support this historic campaign, be it through a gift of prayer, time, talent or treasure. Nearly 11,000 families and individuals sacrificed and generously stepped forward to provide for the future of the Catholic Church in southern Minnesota. Generations of Catholics can and will benefit from your support. Together, we dedicate ourselves to the greater glory of God. Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend John M. Quinn Bishop of Winona
PRIEST RETIREMENT UPDATE OVERVIEW:
Msgr. Richard Colletti, Vicar General, Diocese of Winona
The campaign aimed to increase the permanent endowment for priest retirement to cover healthcare costs and pension benefits. By raising $10.7 million, you have strengthened the priest retirement fund so that the principal (corpus) remains untouched and less vulnerable to economic uncertainties. Our retired priests of today and tomorrow will receive the care and support they need and deserve thanks to your generosity.
PLEDGED TO DATE: $10.7 MILLION
Nearly $4 million dollars have already been collected and invested in the priest retirement fund! The fund today stands in a much stronger position. Thank you for your generosity to the priest retirement fund!
IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY SEMINARY UPDATE OVERVIEW:
Peg Zehren, St. Mary’s Parish
The campaign aimed to modernize and update the existing seminary buildings, making them “barrier-free accessible” for any resident or visitor and safe for our men. Because of your generosity, new space for classrooms and administrative space to adequately accommodate the rigorous Program of Priestly Formation will be added. Your gifts make it possible to replace the existing heating system and add fresh air ventilation to create a dramatically more efficient and effective heating, cooling and air movement system for healthier and more comfortable living. Your contributions make it possible to replace the existing plumbing and electrical systems to meet building code requirements. Because of you, building security and information technology will be improved so that seminarians have access to the tools necessary to meet the demands of education and formation today and in the future.
PLEDGED TO DATE: $5 MILLION
$2 million dollars have already been collected and designated to IHMS for its renovation project. The initial IHMS plans included “contingency” plans based on the amount of money raised. Currently, the $5 million dollar tier has been achieved and planning is proceeding accordingly and a General Design/Build Contractor is being selected. When 75% of the pledged amount is received, construction will begin. This is projected to occur in Fall of 2016 and construction to begin in June 2017 so not to disrupt the academic and spiritual formation program. Thank you for your generosity to IHMS!
Most Reverend John M. Quinn, Bishop of Winona
PARISH NEEDS UPDATE OVERVIEW:
Parishes have an attainable fund-raising goal for the 5-year campaign. 25% of every dollar raised during the campaign is being returned to parishes to address needs determined by pastors and parish leadership. These needs were identified and communicated during the fund-raising campaign. When the total funds collected for your parish exceeds the fund-raising goal, 75% of each additional dollar raised will be returned to your parish.
PLEDGED TO DATE: $5.9 MILLION
$3 million of the $5.9 million dollars have already been collected and distributed to parishes for purposes designated in the parish case statement. Many of these local projects are already underway or in planning stages because you answered their petition for help. By including parish-level projects in this historic campaign, the Church within our entire diocese is being strengthened. Thank you for your generosity to the parishes throughout our diocese!
*Approximately ninety-three cents of every dollar raised will be directly applied to the campaign goals. This figure is well within the industry standard for a fund-raising campaign of this size. Campaign expenses include the cost of all mailings, campaign materials, printing costs, campaign events, supplies and professional fees.
How do I know my investment in this campaign is being used specifically for these goals? The Catholic Foundation of Southern Minnesota is an independent corporation with a separate Board of Directors, comprised of lay persons and clergy, responsible for stewarding any gifts made to the foundation and strictly abiding by the intentions of the donor. The Directors provide oversight for all aspects of the campaign, including collection and distribution of the funds as designated by each donor via the campaign pledge card. All gifts to the campaign will be used solely for the restricted purposes of the campaign and for no other purposes. The restricted purposes have been stated in this document and fully detailed in the complete campaign case statement which can be found online at www.catholicfsmn.org/RootedinFaith.
