PUERTO PLATA
HISTORY...
Puerto Plata (Silver port), also called the “Bride of the Atlantic” is located in the northern area of the Dominican Republic. It was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493. One of the most highlighted characteristic is its Victorian architecture found in all buildings and houses around the historic centre and its peculiar gazebo in Central Park that evokes the influence of the English immigrants in the nineteenth century.
Tradition, history, culture, lush vegetation, tropical forests, 57 kilometers of beaches, incredible adventures, culinary experiences and the hospitality of its people will cast a spell on you. Puerto Plata is a place you will never forget.
Christopher Columbus discovered San Felipe of Puerto Plata on his first voyage, on January 12th 1493, and called the mountain (now Loma Isabel de Torres) Monte de Plata, because on its top, the clouds had a silver tone. Puerto Plata city takes its name from it.
