BOTH SLAB AND BEAM ARE MADE UP OF STONE.IF SPAN IS MORE THAN 3 M THAN CONTINUOS BEAM IS NOT POSSIBLE.IN SUCH CASE A FRAME MUST BE CREATED FOR RESTING OF BEAM AND SLAB.

THE BRIEF WAS TO DESIGN A WEEKEND HOME FOR AN ARTIST AWAY FROM THE CITY. HOME WILL BE FOR THE FAMILY OF FOUR MEMBERS . PLAN BRIEF: G.F - LIVING ROOM , KITCHEN , DINING , MASTER BEDROOM , POOL , RECREATIONAL SPACE , OPEN DECK , CLAY WORKSHOP FOR ARTIST . F.F - 2 BEDROOM , GATHERING SPACE , OPEN DECK

SLATES PLACED ON THE ROOF WERE JOINED WITH THE HELP OF PINS SO THAT THEY WONT SLIP AWAY.

A C

ENTIRE STRUCTURE IS LOAD BEARING AS IT IS MADE OUT OF STONE . AS THE STONE STRUCTURES ARE VERY HEAVY, AS HEIGHT OF STRUCTURE INCREASES. SO IT IS MANDATORY TO DECREASE THE USE OF STONES AND INCREASE THE USE OF OTHER MATERIALS TO MAINTAIN IT.

SLATES ARE JOINED TO EACH OTHER BY PINS. THEN THE TOP MOST SLATE IS JOINED WITH THE WOODEN FRAME BY PIN.

SLAB OF STONE IS FORMED BY SEVERAL BLOCKS WHICH WERE JOINED LIKE THIS.

SECTION AA

SECTION CC STONE HAS MANY QUALITIES SUCH AS HARDNESS DENSITY , DURABILITY , WORKABILITY , STRENGTH , AS WELL AS APPEARANCE. STRATIFIED STONES SHOULD BE EASILY DRESSED. STONE AND WOOD WORKS BEST AS A COMBINATION AND THAT’S THE REASON WOOD HAS BEEN CHOSEN AS A SECONDARY MATERIAL FOR THE DESIGNING.

CONTEXTUAL STUDIO 타 TO DEVELOP CONTEXTUAL UNDERSTANDINGS AND ITS

ASPECTS IN DESIGN PROCESS. IT MUST REFLECT UPLIFTMENT OF LOCALE , THEIR NEED , SOLUTION TO CORE ZONAL PROBLEMS , COMMUNITIES , RELIGION , CULTURE , MATERIAL , ECONOMY AND CLIMATE. 타 PROGRAM : DESIGN HOUSES FOR 9 FAMILIES IN GIVEN AREA. 타 SITE: GOPALPURA STREET IN DAKOR , GUJARAT. 타 AREA - 535 SQ.M

CONTEXTUAL STUDIO

STEAM BENDING METHOD

THE BRIEF WAS TO DOCUMENT THE EXISTING HOUSES IN THE SITE AND THEN REDESIGNING CLUSTER OF HOUSES FOR 9 FAMILIES THAT MUST RESPOND TO THE CONTEXT AS WELL AS MATCH THEIR LIVING PATTERNS. DESIGN BRIEF: 9 HOUSES - 5 (2BHK), 2 (3BHK), 2(4BHK) MOREOVER A COMMUNITY SPACE MUST BE INCLUDED FOR THE FAMILIES TO INCREASE THE INTERACTION AMONG THEMSELVES AND NEIGHBOURS.

BRACKETS ARE USED AS BASIC KOTA STONE SUPPORTS . SOFT WOOD SHEET BENDED USING STEAM WOOD PURLINS BENDING WHERE STRIPS OF WOOD ARE STEAM HEATED USING STEAM BOX. THE HARDNESS OF WOOD WILL DETERMINE HOW LONG IT IS REQUIRED TO SOAK THE WOOD EXPLODED 3D VIEW IN WATER BEFORE BENDING.

THE STRUCTURE IS FOLLOWING THE RADIAL PATTERN. COURTYARD WAS CENTRALLY BUILT AND HAVING VERY LESS VENTILATION. THERE WERE LARGE NUMBER OF OPENINGS ON SOUTH FACING TO CAPTURE LARGE AMOUNT OF DAYLIGHT.

EAST SIDE ELEVATION

NORTH SIDE ELEVATION

COURTYARD PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE AS A GATHERING SPACE AND LIGHTNING ELEMENT. DUE TO LESS WIDTH OF THE STREET COMPARED TO HEIGHT OF THE STRUCTURE , NO SUNLIGHT CAN ENTER FROM FRONT FACADE. HERE COURTYARDS ARE PLACED IN THE CENTRE OF THE STRUCTURE SO THERE IS CIRCULATION OF LIGHT THROUGHOUT THE STRUCTURE DURING DAYTIME.

STREET IS VERY NARROW i.e. X:Y RATIO IS 1:3. HENCE THERE IS CONSTANT SHADOW IN THE STREET THROUGHOUT THE DAY. DUE TO IT ALSO CREATES A FUNNEL EFFECT BY WHICH AIR FLOWS AT HIGH VELOCITY.

SKYLINE OF THE SITE

STREET REMAINS CROWDED THROUGHOUT THE DAY. SO CAMERAS WERE INSTALLED ON THE ELECTRIC POLES FOR SAFETY.

INSTITUTIONAL STUDIO Ÿ THIS STUDIO EMPHASIZES ON ZONING , UNDERSTANDING THE

SCALE OF THE INSTITUTE , FUNCTIONALITY , CLIMATE RESPONSIVENESS , ENERGY ISSUES ,INSTITUTE IMAGE UPLIFTMENT , OVERLAPPING OF FUNCTIONS , EDUCATION QUALTITY THROUGH QUALITY OF SPACES. Ÿ PROGRAM : TO DESIGN A BUS TERMINAL Ÿ SITE: LOCATED IN OLD CITY OF AHMEDABAD OPPOSITE TO

PRESENT GEETA MANDIR BUS TERMINAL. AREA- 31000 SQ.M

INSTITUTIONAL STUDIO THE BRIEF WAS TO DESIGN A BUS TERMINAL THAT ACCOMMODATES 40,000 PASSENGERS AND 800 BUSES IN A DAY. THE CONCEPT WAS TO MINIMIZE THE WASTAGE OF GROUND SPACE AND PROVIDE BETTER CIRCULATION FOR PASSENGERS AND BUSES. TO RESOLVE THE ISSUES OF PARKING ,ENCROACHMENTS , TO RESPOND TO THE HERITAGE SITE NEARBY AND TO THE CONTEXT. MAXIMUM HEIGHT OF THE STRUCTURE IS REDUCED TO 15 M.

BASIC DESIGN SURFACE MODULATION Ÿ IT IS DONE THROUGH CUTTING AND

EXTRUSION OF THE PART OF THE SURFACE FROM THE WHOLE. Ÿ THE TECHNIQUE INCLUDES REMOVING THE SURFACES IN GRIDS TO GET THE PERFECT COMBINATION OF LIGHT AND SHADOW. Ÿ THE SURFACES THAT ARE FORMED WILL BE OBSERVED AFTER THE FORMATION.

SPACE MODULATION Ÿ IT IS DONE THROUGH CUTTING AND EXTRUSION OF ALUMINIUM RODS AND WIRES. Ÿ THE TECHNIQUE INCLUDES PROPORTIONATE BENDING AT RIGHT ANGLES AS WELL AS 45 . Ÿ THE QUALITY OF SPACES FORMED WERE OBSERVED LATER AFTER THE FORMATION.

POLYHEDRON Ÿ WITH THE USE OF DIFFERENT MODULES OF POLYHEDRONS, DEPICTION OF COLUMNNESS ,WALLNESS ,

SPACENESS IS DONE BY REPETITION OF MODULES IN EITHER DIRECTION AND FORMING DIFFERENT KIND OF SPACES.

CREASE AND FOLD MODELS Ÿ MODELS HAD BEEN PREPARED BY USING CREASE AND FOLD METHOD. Ÿ WE CAN EITHER INCREASE OR DECREASE THE SIZE OF THE MODULE AND WORK OUT DIFFERENT

COMBINATION OF THE SAME MODULE BY REPETITION METHOD. Ÿ BY DOING SO INTERESTING SPACES HAVE BEEN CREATED WITHIN THE MODELS .
