In this e-book, a companion to my 22 lessons for A+ fundraising, I’ll show you what to look for when considering custom labelled beverages as a fundraiser and address some contentious issues too. What’s on offer Suppliers listed in the Fundraising Directory provide custom-labelled beverages for: •
Sparkling or spring water
•
Custom labelled wine
• Custom labelled beer What are cleanskins? Cleanskin wines, these days, are simply wines sold without a label. They’re cheaper than wine sold in labelled bottles because of the marketing behind the image.
Who could this work for? Selling water is a popular choice for sporting clubs and in high schools, particularly when linked to a sport group within the school. Wine is a popular money-spinner in kindergartens and preschools – and in some high schools. It’s also a popular social club fundraiser.
message it sends young people about alcohol consumption. My thoughts on this issue, later. For your customized labels, you could run an art competition with a gold coin token entry: the best entry becomes a label. Many providers will design a label for you with your logo.
When to run your fundraiser? If you’ve read 22 lessons for A+ fundraising, you will have in place:
•
a SMART goal – a real target and purpose for fundraising
•
a fundraising calendar with a mix of opportunities throughout the year – without being too enthusiastic or greedy.
Wine and bottled water purchases are among many Australians’ everyday spending. That means your sales are not seasonal. But you can maximise your sales by linking the fundraising drive to events.
Some schools do not support wine drives out of concern for the Fundraising with CUSTOM LABELLED BEVERAGES

Custom labelled bottled water – and wine!
Q
How long have you been operating in fundraising? A We’ve been in business since March 2004. Q Water or wine: what sets you apart from competitors? A We have grown consistently each year thanks to exemplary service and value. Customers keep coming back year after year!
Q
When should fundraisers think water over wine? A As far as fundraising goes, you can’t go past water. It is universally acceptable and always in demand. The price of custom-labelled water is similar to branded waters but the more you buy, the cheaper it gets; and of course, your details are on the label! Q What is your #1 fundraising tip? A Offer something that is universally popular and easy to sell; something that patrons will enjoy and appreciate.

Q
Is your product best combined with an event? A Sports events are ideal but any function is worth considering as the water is appreciated and makes a lasting impression. We even offer sparkling water in 750ml glass bottles for up-market dinners and functions Q What is the minimum quantity you can order? A We supply any quantity from 120 bottles up in multiples of 24 bottles. The more you buy the cheaper it gets!
The company rep should also ask you questions about:
•
your group’s financial goal
•
your fundraising timeline
•
the number of potential participants and their ages
•
any historical information (e.g. past fundraisers, participation levels, successes and failures).

Fundraising tips Product drives work best when they’re short and sharp: two to three weeks is ideal.
• • •
You’ll need to promote ahead of the fundraiser. You’ll need to launch the fundraiser. You’ll need to round up the orders.
My top tips:
• •
Communicate the reason for the fundraiser clearly. Do not involve children in the selling of wine.
•
Do talk to you child about ‘sometimes’ food and beverages. Point out that just as sweets and chocolates are ‘sometimes’ foods, ‘wine’ is a ‘sometimes’ beverage for adults.
•
For wine, arrange to have a taste test.
•
Talk up the convenience of having small bottles of water on hand as it relates to your fundraising group – for example for sports practice, hikes, or family excursions. Fundraising with CUSTOM LABELLED BEVERAGES

1.
Share the outcome with your community.
Too often, a fundraiser just fades away. People want to know what happened! Communicate the result with all who took part – committee members, volunteers, and supporters – using your newsletter and/or website.
2.
Provide your fundraising supplier with feedback.
Then head to the supplier’s listing on the Fundraising Directory website to leave a review of this supplier to share with other fundraising volunteers.

Q A
Why raise money through wine? Even if your fundraising group is not large, the dollar-for-dollar return on specialised wine sales is a proven earner that can outperform almost any other single fundraising initiative. Why? Because it taps into a quality consumer product that people buy anyway, and because it delivers them real savings on their normal expenditure. Q How do we choose our wines? A We are happy to guide you through your selections over the phone or via our website. Also, you are welcome to buy any tasting stock at the fundraising rate.
Q A
Can we customise our label? For a minimal fee per case, we can incorporate your logo, letterhead, drawing or any other item or text
you'd like. We have a variety of label templates that may appeal, or we can design something completely original on your behalf. Q How long does it take once order forms are submitted? A Allow us two weeks to process cheques and credit cards, and to prepare all your customers' orders. No additional outlay is required from your charitable organisation, nor are there any hidden charges. Q Are there any delivery charges? A Wine Experience will deliver your wine direct to your customers door Australia Wide for a flat rate of $10 per case. If you would like to collect your wine in store, no charges will apply.
