Local newsletter out now: We are currently distributing our quarterly newsletter to every household across the ward. If you haven’t received it by the end of the week, please let us know and we’ll endeavour to get a copy to you. We rely on local volunteers to help us with this task and we are very grateful for their help and support. If you can spare an hour or two every few months and would like to deliver to a street or two in your area, please message us.
Rubble on road: After the recent, heavy rain, a lot of rubble has been washed off back alleyways and ended up across the junction of Hillsborough and Whitby Roads. This is a potential hazard and needs to be cleared so we have contacted the Council.
Blocked drains reported: Yet more blocked drains have been spotted in the ward. This latest one is on Sandy Park Road at the entrance to the alleyway adjacent to the furniture shop. Please send us pictures and locations of any blocked drains and we’ll report them to the Council. With recent heavy downpours it’s imperative our drains are kept clear to help prevent flooding. Recycling centre: Glad to see the recycling centre at our local branch of Sainsbury’s is being kept clean and tidy these days. We had to talk to the duty manager on a couple of occasions in the past due to the appalling litter at the site. Well done, Sainsbury’s. Now all we need are some EV recharging points!
Make Votes Matter: The Liberal Democrats believe in electoral reform with a fairer voting system in which the number of seats a political party wins is in proportion to their share of the vote. This weekend we joined our friends at the Make Votes Matter street stall in Wapping Wharf, talking to local people about proportional representation and getting dozens of signatures on our petition. If you would like to get involved and join us at a future Make Votes Matter event, please check out the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.

Corporate strategy consultation: Local residents are invited to participate in a new consultation focusing on Bristol City Council’s draft five-year plan for 2022 to 2027. The Corporate Strategy 2022 to 2027, once consulted on, will become the council’s main strategic document, setting its overall vision for the council, its services and what it is trying to achieve alongside many partners in Bristol and beyond. It is a high-level strategic response to the opportunities and challenges facing Bristol now and in the future, forming the basis of detailed future business plans and how the council organises itself. The strategy includes proposed top priorities for the coming five years, taking account of major challenges like COVID-19 and recovery, climate change, the ecological emergency and tackling structural inequality and poverty in the city. The One City Plan has provided an important evidence base in shaping the priorities. Everyone who lives, works and visits Bristol is invited to look at the draft Corporate Strategy and have their say through the consultation, which is open now at www.bristol.gov.uk/corporatestrategy2021
The consultation will last for six weeks and people can give their feedback until midnight on Sunday 26 September 2021. People’s responses to the consultation will be considered as a final draft of the strategy is developed. The responses will also be considered by both Cabinet and Full Council at their respective meetings on 2 November and 7 December 2021. The final decision about the Corporate Strategy rests with Full Council. Printed versions will be available in the Citizen Service Point at 100 Temple Street and local libraries across Bristol.
Road closure: We have just been informed that West Town Lane will be closed for 5 days in November for resurfacing work. The exact dates are 01/11/21 to 05/11/21. Obviously, we’ll remind you again nearer the time but we just wanted to forewarn you.

Hog HQ joins Wapping Wharf's growing community
Bristol independent business The Jolly Hog has moved its headquarters, known as Hog HQ, to the city's harbourside neighbourhood, Wapping Wharf.
The Jolly Hog is a Bristol-based, family-run business, which sells award-winning British outdoor-bred, RSPCA Assured sausages and bacon, with its brand now available in major supermarkets including Asda, Tesco's, Sainsbury's, Waitrose and Ocado. With a team of 13, including owners, co-founders and brothers Max, Josh and Olly Kohn, the business also has a much-loved eatery, Pigsty, which is already based at Wapping Wharf within CARGO, a popular hub of independent businesses housed in converted shipping containers.
The Jolly Hog has now moved its base into its newly fitted out office, also made of converted shipping containers, along Museum Street next to CARGO 2. Having previously been located on Gloucester Road, Hog HQ moved into its events storage space in Frampton Cotterell at the onset of the pandemic, not anticipating its stay would last 18 months at the time.
The Jolly Hog's exciting new HQ office at Wapping Wharf provides an open plan workspace for staff, a board room for meetings and kitchen, which will be used for food photography and product development, as well as space for entertaining.
Max Kohn, co-founder of The Jolly Hog, said: “We are really looking forward to being in Wapping Wharf, the atmosphere down there is amazing. It’s also a great food hub and inspiration for our retail new product development. The office itself is looking just how we wanted it, and you can hardly miss us if you walk past! The new location will aid our retail business alongside Pigsty and we are really looking forward to that. Thanks to Stuart and the team at Umberslade for all their help too." Stuart Hatton, managing director at Umberslade, the developer of Wapping Wharf, said: "We are delighted to welcome Hog HQ to Wapping Wharf. Pigsty has been part of the CARGO community since the very early days; it's been great to see this wonderful independent business go from strength to strength over the years and now expand its presence within the neighbourhood. We wish the whole team all the best with the exciting next chapter in their Jolly Hog adventures."
The Jolly Hog was originally founded in 2007 when Olly was playing rugby for the Harlequins and was out of action with an injury. With extra time on his hands and an extra large love of sausages, Olly started making his own using a sausage-making machine bought for him as a present. Josh and Olly joined forces and The Jolly Hog was born with Max helping with events initially before moving back to Bristol from London in 2011. The rest is history - and to this day the sausage making machine is kept in Pigsty at Wapping Wharf. Hog HQ is based in the unit formerly home to the Wapping Wharf Living marketing suite. Wapping Wharf is in the heart of Bristol's historical and cultural quarter, with its tree-lined pedestrian and cycle route, Gaol Ferry Steps, providing an important connection between south Bristol to the city centre. Now home to over 40 independent businesses, many of which are based within CARGO, Wapping Wharf is home to some of the city's best independent restaurants, shop, cafes and lifestyle businesses.
