A bunch of different restaurants, pop-ups and street food traders will be showcased at the event, displaying their culinary talents and competing against each other to find out who makes the best wings in the UK. It’s the festivalgoers themselves who will be voting to determine the winner in two different categories: best buffalo wing (with the classic spicy sauce), and best wild wing (where traders can let their creativity run wild with a variety of flavours and toppings).

The Globes have been created by artists from Bristol and across the UK, who will bring the city to life with diverse experiences and creative styles.
This summer, everyone is invited to take a journey of discovery across Bristol through a sculpture trail that explores the many layers of our shared history.
The trail is taking place at the same time as trails in six other cities as The World Reimagined invites people across the UK to acknowledge this history and support the work of community activists and Supportedorganisations.byBristol City Council, the globes will bring people, families, and communities together to talk about how we understand our history, how our past shapes our future, and how we can act for social change.
Schools have also got involved, with around 14 small globes being featured on the trail created by schools who have taken part in The World Reimagined learning programme. Connected by a digital platform that enables visitors to dive into a unique heritage collection, the trail stretches from Royal Fort Gardens to St Paul’s, and across the city Thecentre.following 10 large Globes make up the trail around central Bristol, which are in the suggested order that people visit them:
A new UK-wide charitable art project that invites the public to explore the UK’s relationship with the Transatlantic Trade in Enslaved Africans is launching in Bristol.
Running until 31 October, The World Reimagined will transform Bristol’s streets with a free art trail of 10 Globe sculptures - each designed by an individual artist responding to themes ranging from Mother Africa to Still We Rise and Expanding Soul.

They love the traditional British dishes with a skilful, modern twist, and they're especially fond of the chorizo sausage rolls and salt cod fritters starter, and the crisp lamb belly or roast skate wing main course. in fact, The Blaise Inn has been mentioned by the Michelin Guide inspectors as one of their favourite new additions to this year’s Great Britain & Ireland Michelin’sGuide.
A pub in Bristol that was only open for business nine months under new owners got singled out for praise in the Michelin restaurant guide. The guide announced The Blaise Inn as an entry point for venues who could reach Michelin star-level.
There are different levels of recognition from Michelin. To be in the guide is the entry point for restaurants, to have a Michelin star is one of the highest accolades. Restaurants can collect up to three Michelin stars. A Michelin green star is a recognition of a restaurant dedicated to sustainability. A bib gourmand is occasionally awarded to restaurants producing excellent food at a particularly affordable price. Did you know that Bristol has 15 restaurants in the Michelin guide. Two of which have a Michelin star, Casamia and Paco Tapas, and the other Wilsons, has a green star.

As the guide’s restaurant section developed, the Michelin brothers enlisted a team of mystery diners to visit and review restaurants, which marked the beginning of the Michelin guide we know today.

Many of us think of Michelin as a tyre company rather than a food company, but the two are actually linked. The Michelin brothers started selling tyres in the late 1800s, and they also produced a little red guide filled with maps and places to stop, buy fuel and stay whilst travelling around France. The idea was that it would encourage early motorists to get out and about, which would in turn increase tyre sales.

School uniform grants are an amount of money you can get from your local council, if you are on a low income, to put towards the cost of school uniforms and PE kits. However, there is no requirement for local authorities in England to offer school uniform grants, so whether you’ll be able to get one will depend on your local council. You can find out whether your local authority offers the grant by using the government’s handy tool on the gov.uk website. Simply enter your postcode and click through to your local authority’s website.

As long as your local authority offers a school uniform grant, your child will usually qualify if they are eligible for free school meals. This means you will need to be receiving at least one of the following means-tested benefits:
14 the cost of everything from energy bills to food costs continues to soar. Back to school purchases can be expensive, with the average cost of compulsory secondary school uniform and sportswear items coming in at £101.19 per pupil, according to The School Wear Association. But applying for a school uniform grant could be one way to save money on back to school costs(opens in new tab) and keep your bank balance a little healthier.

All the big supermarkets tend to run backto-school events during the summer months, all with various claims and money-back promises. Make sure you keep an eye out for those and look at the guarantees as well as the pricing. It is especially worth checking out discount supermarkets like Aldi as their back-to-school events are known for bargain prices.
• £67.20 for a post primary/special school pupil over 15 years old
If you don’t qualify or cannot get a school uniform grant, the good news is there are many other ways to save money on school uniform costs. Buying a uniform second-hand is one of the easiest ways to save money. Under new guidance from the Department for Education (DfE), schools in England must now ensure that second-hand uniforms are available. They are also advised to keep branded uniform items to a minimum and encourage parents to buy cheaper supermarket(opens in new tab) alternatives, which could save parents around £50 on average.
• £42.90 for a primary school pupil • £61.20 for a post primary/special school pupil under 15 years old
The amount of money you’ll get with a school uniform grant - provided you qualify and your local authority offers it - will vary depending on the local authority and where you live in the UK. In England, the maximum you can get is £150 per child, but it could be as little as £25.

(iii) Remember that this will not be your home – you won’t be living there! We have seen many examples of overspend personalisation and Landlords specific “taste” in far too many rental properties. Don’t make the mistake of catering to yourself because you will not be the tenant. You might love bright orange, fluorescent magenta and black, but will your tenants?
We see a lot of properties, all sorts and types and manner of properties. Bristol is a buoyant and thriving market where, in most cases, demand far outstrips supply, and we see our landlords achieving record rental rates time and time again. So, you can imagine how surprised we were, to receive a call from a landlord, who had a newly refurbished HMO, in a very desirable part of the city, which was only achieving, what we considered to be modest rental rates, compared to others that we had let in the same area. Our interest was piqued – so we booked in an appointment to go visit the property and meet with the Landlord. It didn’t take us long to see what was going on and, sadly, the answer involved rethinking many of the design decisions that had been made and picking up a paintbrush. The good news is that this Landlord was a super guy, who was solution focused and we were able to work with him to add value. Here are some top tips when you are refurbishing and designing your rental properties:
1. Do it well, do it once! This doesn’t mean gold taps and granite work tops, but it does mean providing a decent standard that is going to stand the test of time. If you skimp with poor quality, then things will break and you will have more maintenance issues, which will not only mean replacing items but picking up maintenance bills in the process. Find a happy medium – a price that you are comfortable with and items that will last and attract quality tenants.
2. Differentiate but don’t polarise. Designs that are impactful are great, but those that are “marmite” are not. Think about your target audience. Your aim is to attract as many tenant applications as possible, not to alienate large parts of your market.
DESIGNING A PROPERTY THAT’S NOT YOUR HOME
22
9. Will your design date? Something may be great and cutting edge in the moment, but these designs often date quickly. If you have used this design across a whole house, then this will mean a whole house refurb. Think about how the design will look in a few years’ time.
7. Colours that clash can work just as well as those that complement. Familiarise yourself with a colour wheel and have a look at prima ry, analogue, intermediate, complementary, split complementary and clashing options, then pick some you like. It can be fun, and you’ll soon come up with a design that works for you!
5. Don’t forget texture. There are some wonderful designs that use texture in addition to colour as part of a scheme – for instance, wood, lambswool, metal, cork, stone. Used in the right context, these can be beautiful –especially if it’s an urban design you’re after!
10. Perceived value. You do not have to break the bank to produce beautiful, impactful designs. If you take the time and trouble to get “under the skin” of your investment area, you can choose little touches that will make a world of difference but won’t cost a fortune. In some of our properties in Bristol, we use a local artist to create a design on a feature wall.
6. White is not the bad guy! In these days of bold colour schemes, white has been painted (see what we did here) as the bad guy. We have seen some lovely designs where bold, bright, white has been used as a backdrop and then louder, more impactful colours, by way of a window frame, door frame, curtains, fittings, and furniture, have been used to highlight. This can work well and be an easy option.maintenance
8. Remember how things will look on their own. If you are picking a scheme which hinges on accessories to make it work, think about how it will look without the accessories.
4. Less is more. We’ve seen properties where Landlords have taken a bold design and filled the house with it, on every wall! Remember, bold goes a long way! If you cover every wall, with every colour scheme under the sun, it may just look as though someone has “thrown up” all over it. Take a design and adapt it, pick out the bits that you like and use them in places to make the design your own. A highlight of a colour can go a long way. Also remember that some colours are restful, and some are vibrant and full of energy – place them accordingly.
3. Impactful but with room for tenants to add their own value and personal touches. An impactful property will get noticed but remember that, in most cases tenants also want to make it their home. Leave room for this and bear it in mind. This doesn’t mean not including the things they need but it does mean leaving space for them to add something of their own personality and turn it into their home.

“We’re conscious that these remaining people may include those who are most in need but do not have the means to apply or who are not yet aware of it. If you know someone who is eligible please encourage them to apply. If they can’t use the internet they can call our Citizen Service Centre on 0117 922 2900 or someone else can do it on their behalf, provided they have the correct council tax account number and the person’s bank details, unless they want it credited to their council tax account.”
Bank details taken as part of the application will only be used to pay the £150 rebate and will not be used for future payments of council tax, unless requested.
181,000 council tax account holders in the city were eligible for payment as they live in properties in council tax bands A to D. Despite letters going to those households that still need to apply, around 40,000 have still not responded.
There are 40,000 Bristol households that have not yet applied to receive the £150 council tax rebate announced by the Government earlier this year. Most households that pay their council tax via direct debit will have already automatically received this and don’t need to Thoseapply. who do need to apply are people who pay by a different method, don’t pay council tax due to exemption or being on the council tax reduction scheme, or whose direct debit bank details didn’t match the council tax account. If these people have not applied by Wednesday 31 August, they will still receive the rebate but instead of a lump sum will have their council tax account credited, with the £150 being distributed across the remaining instalments for the year. Those who have no council tax to pay will receive a Post Office voucher to claim the £150 payment. Filling out the online form is the quickest way for residents to receive their Aroundmoney.

Councillor Craig Cheney, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for City Economy, Finance and Performance, said: “I am really pleased to say that we have already successfully paid over 141,000 households their £150 but there are still a lot of people we need to reach. “The rising cost of living is affecting everybody in the city and I know that £150 will make a significant difference to many people so we want to ensure that those res idents who are eligible have the opportunity to apply for it.
To apply for your £150 council tax rebate please complete the form on the Bristol City Council website or call the Citizen Service Centre for help on 0117 922 2900. If you experience any issues with the form, including bank details not being accepted or being told you are not eligible, please call the Citizen Service Centre.
Applications for a discretionary scheme have just been opened for those Bristol residents who are not eligible for the £150 payment. All payments for the discretionary scheme have to be made by the council before the end of November 2022 but residents are encouraged to apply as early as possible.
27
Cllr Cheney added: “If you are struggling with the rising cost of living, please reach out. There is advice, support and information available across Bristol. Our city will do all we can to support you.”
The recipient will receive the payment on behalf of the household. For full eligibility criteria and to apply for the discretionary fund, visit the Bristol City Council website. People are advised to ensure they complete the correct applica tion form, based on their circumstances, to ensure fast payment. Residents will need to provide evidence, including council tax account number, photo ID and proof of address.

“After many years of discussion, it is exciting to see proposals for a new station finally building momentum.
Councillor Steve Reade, cabinet member responsible for transport at South Gloucestershire Council, said: “We are really pleased with the response, which demonstrates a strong level of support for a new station in Charfield. “We would like to thank everyone who took the time to take part in our consultation. The feedback given is now helping us develop our plans ready for a planning application, which we will submit very soon.
The council is now pushing ahead with a planning application for the new station which will include two platforms serving north and southbound journeys, a pedestrian footbridge, a public transport interchange, covered cycle parking, and car parking. The application is expected to be submitted to the Local Planning Authority later in the summer. Once submitted the scheme will be subject to further public consultation, led by the Local Planning Authority, providing an opportunity for people to comment on the application.
NEW CHARFIELD
A new station in Charfield will support sustainable travel to and from the village and surrounding area. The station will also improve access to jobs, education and a wider variety of services and facilities and help mitigate some of the impacts of recent development in the area.

STOKE PARK ESTATE
STOKE PARK ESTATE
This is a relatively unknown nature reserve in North Bristol. Park on Lakewood Road, or if you have a double buggy, the Doncaster Road entrance is the recommended option as the gate can be a bit of a squeeze. If you’ve come in via Lakewood Road, follow the tarmac path with the River Trym on your left as it trickles through the valley floor, past trees that are up to 400 years old. When you come to a fork in the trail, you can choose to go left or right to follow a circular loop. We chose to go up past the open green playing fields, past wild flower meadows and follow the path round past Badock’s Wood primary school before meeting up with the River to return to Lakewood Road.
BADOCK’S WOOD
three walks to do in the park, but for buggies you’re slightly limited to the linear path, accessible from Parnell Road or Duch ess Gate opposite Broom Hill. Parnell Road is great route in, as you can find somewhere to park and then marvel at the clock tower set amid a grassy square, before going to explore the estate.
Accessible trails with well-maintained paths and easy terrain make the following routes great stroller-friendly walks in and around Bristol.
BADOCK’S WOOD
You might not know it by name, but Stoke Park Estate is the one with the big yellow castle (Dower House) that is visible from the M32 on the way into Bristol. Next to one of Bristol’s well-known bridges, the Prince of Wales Bridge or Second Severn Crossing as it’s known is this quaint little village called Severn Beach. It takes about 25-minutes to drive from Bristol, or you can catch a 40-minute train ride from Bristol Temple Meads to this South Gloucestershire village. If you’re going by car, head towards Station Road BS35 4PL to park on the street. From here it’s easy to get onto the pram friendly flat concrete path that goes around the coastline in both directions. If you turn left away from the bridge you’ll follow alongside the shingly beach with views across to Wales, Flat Holm Island, the lights of Portishead and industrial Avonmouth. Or, take the concrete promenade North – under the M4 bridge – for one mile to discover a protected saltmarsh where thousands of birds stop by on their annual migration. The flat pathways are perfect for buggies and little ones on their bikes and scooters. For a post buggy walk refuel, try Shirley’s Cafe for fish and chips and a cuppa or plan ahead.

Along with vast stretches of green, there is a pram friendly trail all the way round. Park at Hungerford Gardens BS14 8XX where you can easily see the entrance and playground. The hearse used to carry Winston Churchill to his final resting place is to be used for Bristol funerals after being painstakingly Therestored.Austin Princess, registration number BLE 704B carried Churchill’s body from Festival Pier in London to Waterloo Station through crowds of mourners at the State Funeral in January 1965.

Christopher Baker, founder of the Memorial Woodlands said: “We believe the history of the hearse makes it appropriate for military families or for anyone who has a sense of history. “Churchill’s funeral was a magnificent event that saw the largest gathering of world leaders during the 1960s. His body was conveyed on a gun carriage, down the Thames on board the MV Havengore and then on to a train named in his honour to Oxfordshire where he was buried.
Bristol Memorial Woodlands is creating a 100-acre wood that is held in Trust for future generations to visit. Those conveyed to their final resting place in the restored hearse will rest amidst English woodland where only native trees and flowers are Theplanted.hearse was restored by Jo Burge of Classic Marine Engineers in Suffolk. He said: “It was a comprehensive overhaul that took us three years as we wanted everything to stay as authentic as possible and source all the correct parts.
“It was an interesting project as the hearse bodywork was by Vanden Plas so we had a vehicle that had steel bolt on wings of the type used on some of the earliest vehicles, aluminium on the front doors and fibreglass at the back. “We also found that some of the interior that looked like wood was in fact Formica wood effect, and we had never worked on re storing Formica before. Apart from a small change to the fuel delivery system, which weas necessary for safety, it is restored to how it was in the 1960s.”
The historic vehicle is available for funerals through Bristol Memorial Woodlands
Now the historic vehicle is being put to work once again by Bristol Memorial Woodlands funeral directors making it available for the final journey of Bristol people to its chapel and green burial ground in its nature reserve near Alveston, Bristol.
The hearse played a vital role in the State Funeral of the British Prime Minister, who led the country through the Second World War.
CHURCHILL’S HEARSE FOR BRISTOL FUNERALS
“The hearse was used for the short part of his final journey between the boat and the train. At every stage of the journey people stood in tribute to the country’s wartime leader.”

Successful applicants receive a £100 credit limit and can load an initial top-up of £25 to £75 on to their cards. Online, Iceland said: "We do perform credit searches on an application, but we don't do generic credit scoring - we prefer to look at how you’re repaying things now rather than something that may have happened many years ago."
From today (August 16) Iceland is offering a zero-interest loans scheme designed to help struggling families across the UK as the cost of living surges. The frozen food giant will provide people with small loans from £25 to £75 to bridge the gap in income, allowing parents to pay the cost of the school holidays grocery bill. The initiative is part of a link-up between Iceland and a charity-owned lender, Fair For You. The trial scheme, Iceland Food Club, will see the loans uploaded to Food Club card, repaid at the rate of £10 per week. The move comes from an initial pilot phase which was offered to 5,000 customers. So far, Iceland has given out £1m in the loans. They were originally charged interest, but Iceland have now invested an unknown amount into “making all loans completely interest-free for the national rollout”. As reported by The Guardian, an independent evaluation of the pilot found that 92% of customers who had previously used food banks had stopped or reduced their use, while 71% said they were less likely to fall behind on rent, council tax or other bills. According to Iceland 83% of participants said that they no longer need to access food banks, 80% reported an improvement in their mental health, 85% said that they were less worried about meeting their monthly expenses, and 75% reported that they are feeding their children more healthily. Anyone can apply for the scheme and, if successful, credit can be used both in-store and online using the preloaded card.
ICELAND’S PAY LATER £75 SHOP SCHEME
Richard Walker, managing director of Iceland, said “fresh thinking” was required from business and government to find workable solutions to the cost of living crisis, reports The Guardian. The initiative has been supported by organisations including Nesta, a UK innovation foundation, and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, a grant-making charity.
