A STUNNING NEW ARTWORK THAT LIGHTS UP THE NIGHT SKY IS COMING SOON TO WESTON-SUPER-MARE

Get ready for the GLOW light festival this February! With a variety of illuminated artworks that go beyond Grove Park, experience breathtaking light shows at the Grand Pier and Dolphin Square. This festival is brought to you by Culture Weston in partnership with Westonsuper-Mare Town Council and the Grand Pier, funded by Arts Council England, the National Lottery Community Fund, and more. Let's give thanks to Producer Paula Birtwistle for making this amazing event possible—featuring a stellar lineup of national artists—and now we can all enjoy!

Internationally renowned artist Chila Kumari Singh Burman MBE is creating a special piece of art to be featured on the grand pier! Her next work, ‘Pigeon’, will be a vibrant and bright neon homage to what some people might consider as an underrated creature: the humble pigeon. As described by Chila herself,

“The pigeon - oft maligned despite its well-known loyalty, homing instinct that lasts up to 800 miles a day, and cultural significance - deserves its moment to shine.” Another amazing example of her punjabi- Liverpudlian style of art that lit up TATE BRITAIN during 2020’s pandemic can also be seen in ‘Remembering a Brave New World’. We’re so excited for Chila’s upcoming installation.

Before coming home to nest in Weston’s town centre, ‘Pigeon’ will be on display at The Grand Pier, alongside two additional works by Chila Kumari Singh Burman‘Laxmi’ and ‘Without us there is no Britain’, both of which were part of the iconic Tate Britain facade.

Walliscote Primary School’s talented students are putting their creativity and inspiration to good use too under the guidance of artist Megan Clark-Bagnall. It’s all part of an amazing project titled ‘Nest’ to create illuminated nests, inspired by local public art piece ‘Pigeon’. Once finished, these gorgeous pieces of art will be displayed in Weston Artspace on the High Street during GLOW! How exciting!
