Medieval café launches new menu

Medieval café launches new menu after vital electrical works completed

Located in what is thought to have been the entrance to castle’s great hall, the café is now able to offer a full menu including breakfasts, brunches and lunches, as well as barista drinks and a range of snacks. The café launched to a welcoming reception in September this year, following 18 months of work to restore the Scheduled Ancient Monument, a status given to nationally important historic buildings. However, with this status came further challenges such as upgrading the electrical systems and voltage capacity of the building in order to run the brand-new kitchen.

Cllr Ellie King, Cabinet member for Public Health, Communities and Bristol One City, said “We want Bristol’s parks to be places that are welcoming to all and provide spaces where people want to visit and enjoy. Park cafés provide focal points for communities and act as hubs for many local groups. I’m delighted to see this unique and striking addition to a much-loved part of the city thriving.” With the launch of the full menu, the café is now also offering a 10 per cent student discount, NHS discount and Blue Light Card discount on production of a valid identification card.

The council already operates seven cafés and kiosks across Bristol, with the income used to help fund the cost of maintaining the city’s parks and green spaces.

Catering Business Manager Jayne Grocock said, “All of our cafés support local food producers and proudly offer sustainable and healthy menu options. We are working towards achieving a Bristol Eating Better Gold Standard award for the Vaulted Chambers Café, which many of our other cafés and kiosks have already achieved”. Blaise Castle Estate Café, another café run by Bristol City Council Parks & Green Space Catering Team, was awarded a Bristol Eating Better Gold Standard award only this week.
