Web: www.wendysnuu.co.uk Call: 07966 872 915 On your first visit you will get a full introduction on what we do, how your problem areas can be targeted and which treatment works best for you. Here is more information on each facet of Cool sculpting and how it can help you: ICE LIPO/FAT FREEZE What is fat freeze? It is non-invasive treatment used to reduce unwanted fat by using near sub-zero temperatures to kill the fat cells without damaging the surrounding tissues and nerves. How many sessions do I need? One session is sufficient for most people, for most areas. Depending on the thickness of the fat and the client’s personal goals, fat freezing may be repeated in the same area a second time, but is not always necessary. How much fat is expected to be lost in 1 session? This depends on the individual. For example, a 26% reduction of body fat is the expected removal in one 25-minute session. It is advised that the client waits 20 – 30 days before their second session. LASER LIPO What is laser lipo? Considered one of the most innovative methods to treat stubborn areas of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise.
6
How many sessions do I need? 2 sessions per week 8 per course/area. How much fat is expected to be lost in 1 session? This depends on the individual. You can lose anything between 3-10cm along your waistline (per session). CAVITATION What is cavitation? Ultrasound-Cavitation Body Shaping converts fat cells into liquid which can then be naturally drained by the body’s own lymphatic system. How many sessions do I need? 2 sessions per week 8 per course/area. Any more than this per week and it would cause too much stress on the body to eliminate the fat. Fat is a solid substance; How can it be eliminated through the urine? Cavitation causes the fat cells to turn to liquid this makes it easier to leave the body through the lymphatic and urinary system. What is RF? Used to tighten and induce collagen production for skin tightening. How many sessions do I need? 2 sessions per week 8 sessions for maximum results. We look forward to welcoming you to Wendy’s Nu u. Healthy Mum gains new lease of life Local Mum Keesa has become the healthy mum she always dreamt of being after managing her weight through her pregnancy. Keesa trained as a Consultant two years ago with Slimming World after losing two stone and has held groups in Cardiff. Now she is moving back to Bristol and is looking forward to helping people locally to transform their lives as she did when she first became a Slimming World member 9 years ago. Keesa continued to attend group every week throughout her pregnancy and has now celebrated the birth of her baby son, thrilled that she’s able to pass on her healthy lifestyle habits to her family. ''Slimming World changed the way I think about food, and it's wonderful having the support to know that I was making the best choices to manage my weight healthily throughout my pregnancy. The specially-tailored pregnancy plan encourages plenty of fresh foods like fruit and vegetables, chicken, pasta and potatoes while encouraging extra portions of certain foods such as diary for calcium, to ensure that my baby and I were getting all the necessary vitamins and minerals. It's simple to follow and it was great knowing that the Food Optimising eating plan was safe for both of us. I never felt hungry and knew I could manage my cravings whenever they came knocking," says Keesa. After giving birth to her son, the new mum found that the weight quickly began to drop off as she stuck to her healthy eating programme. “It was great because I knew that by managing my weight throughout my pregnancy I’d have less to lose afterwards. I had helped many of my members to do it before becoming pregnant and it was nice to do it myself. As part of my lifestyle my healthy habits remain in place and ensure’s my son is as fit and strong as he can be. Currently weaning, he is enjoying all the foods I enjoy eating healthy as a family. I feel like I’m giving my son the best start in life.”
10
''Weight loss or ‘dieting’ during pregnancy isn't encouraged – instead we support women to adopt a balanced, healthy diet to prevent excess weight gain. We have a specially-adapted version of our healthy eating plan for pregnant members, that women like myself can stick to during pregnancy and when breastfeeding." "Many women who come to my group have told me that their weight problems began when they became pregnant with their first child. And lots of members say that they gained more weight with successive pregnancies too. I tell my members that it doesn’t have to be that way, and that at Slimming World expectant mums can make simple and straightforward changes to the way they shop, cook and eat to prevent excess weight gain while pregnant, and manage a healthy weight after birth". Keesa’s Slimming World group will be held at Christ Church Hall, Petherton Road,Hengrove every Saturday at 9am from Saturday 5th January 2019. For more information or to join Keesa’s group either pop along on Saturday 5th January or contact her on 07399 597267.

Movie Previews For January While you might be tempted to take yourself to the gym or yoga class as a result of eating too much turkey, Cineworld are also giving you plenty of reasons to stay glued to your cinema seat. The new year brings with it lots of exciting big screen releases, and here is just a few of them. After movies like The Favourite, Welcome to Marwen, and The Front Runner start the year in style between January 1st and 11th respectively, it’s on the 18th that the third and final film in M. Night Shyamalan’s Unbreakable trilogy arrives. Glass picks up immediately after the events of Split, forcing James McAvoy’s Horde, Bruce Willis’ Overseer, and, of course, Samuel L. Jackson’s Mr Glass together for a different kind of superhero epic 20 years in the making! Then on the same day, Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie butt heads in Josie Rourke’s historical drama film, Mary Queen of Scots, which chronicles the 1569 conflict between the queens of England and Scotland. Expect plenty of intrigue, betrayal, drama, and more. Winding us down towards the end of the month just one week later on January 25th is A Dog’s Way Home, an endearing tale for all the family which follows one dog’s 400-mile journey to find its owner. If ever you wanted proof that dog really is man’s best friend, this might be it. Lastly don’t forget, Cineworld Bristol and Direct Local Bristol have teamed up to give readers a chance to win two free cinema tickets. Simply fill out the word search on tthe next page. January is filled with movies set to make waves this upcoming awards season. How many will you be watching at your local Cineworld?
Article by Aaron Potter who is a professional writer for Cineworld Bristol and places these articles in Direct Local each month to give you the public a choice of great movies to view at your local cinema.

Your Garden In January The garden in January needs to be prepared for all sorts of weather and if you’ve been following our advice over the last few months your hard work is done for now. Most plants are dormant this month as they sleep through the cold weather, but there are still a few things to do in the garden. Spring is just around the corner and work can be done to prepare for the warmth of the new season. When its not too cold bed and borders can be dug over and lawn edges can be repaired and re-shaped. Don’t forget to keep feeding the birds, as food is scare for them over the winter.
Feed the birds
Natural food sources for birds are in short supply during the winter. Give them a helping hand by putting food for them. Keep food topped up but not full all the time – little and often is best.
Plant of the month: Helleborus Why should you plant them? Popular because they flower in the cold winter and early spring, Hellebores herald the start of the New Year bringing a touch of colour to the garden, commonly known as ‘Christmas Roses’ they are easy to grow and very hardy. They produce attractive flowers and their leaves create a perfect evergreen backdrop to spring flowering bulbs. How should you plant them?
3 Essential gardening jobs for fJanuary Protect plants January is known for cold frosts and bitter winds so plants will need protecting. If you haven’t already done so, ensure protective fleece is in place on tender plants over-wintering outdoors. Lift containers up onto pot feet – if water isn’t draining away the soil can become waterlogged. Wet compost can rot roots and cause pots to crack in frost. Remove snow from tree and shrub branches by knocking with a broom. Even a small amount of snow can add a lot of weight toe branches, causing them to snap. Dig over bare ground Run a fork through your vegetable patch or flowerbeds. This will help to aerate – getting air into the soil is important because plant roots need oxygen. Choose a dry day when the soil isn’t too wet. Don’t break your back breaking down large lumps of soil. Keeping them can help air circulate and any later frost will break them up.
20
Plant in shady herbaceous borders and the areas between deciduous shrubs to give an early splash of colour. Happy in dappled shade they should be planted in rich, heavy soil that won’t dry out in the summer. Ideal planting companions include Snowdrops, Primrose, Cornus and Mahonia

Councillors Corner
Article by Brislington Labour Councillors, Harriet Bradley and Mike Langley Everybody wants their children to do well. And parents know how important it is that they are getting a good education. A good school should help every child to fulfil its potential, as well as showing concern about pupils’ well-being and happiness. Doing well at school is a step on the road to a secure and happy future, the ability to find a job and be able to share in the good things life has to offer. Sadly, our schools are in crisis, owing to savage and persistent cuts by the Tory government. Between 2015 and 2020, Bristol will have seen its schools budget slashed by £19,307,808.
Childhood should be a time of security and happiness. But the testing regime of SATs is hard on children, who are anxious and worried at the prospect of failure. Our children are some of the unhappiest in Europe; there is a growing mental health crisis among young people. More over the pressures of austerity and the poverty it brings mean many children from poorer families come to school hungry, making it harder for them to concentrate. Many teachers take food to school to feed hungry pupils; recently a school in Norfolk decided to set up its own food bank to stop disadvantaged children stealing from others’ lunch boxes.
This amounts to up to £400 per pupil, and is the ninth highest cut to any local authority. This means cuts in staffing, cuts in resources, increased class sizes. Hardest hit has been the budget for SEND, special educational needs and disabilities. Children with these needs often require individual attention and classroom support which they are not receiving. The number of children with plans for support has doubled since 2005, and the number waiting for a proper assessment of needs has tripled since 2010. This is turn puts strain on class teachers, and may lead to lessons being disrupted. A group of local parents was so concerned that their children were not getting the help they needed that they took a court case against the council over the cuts – and were successful. Along with this, schools are subjected to a time-consuming testing and audit scheme; if schools don’t measure up, they are judged to be ‘failing’ and put in ‘special measures’, putting extra stress on the teachers. So great are the pressures within schools that almost a third of newly trained teachers leave within five years. Schools find it increasingly hard to recruit and retain committed staff.

What can you do to help our embattled Bristol schools? Write to your MPs complaining about the cuts and the impacts on your children. Labour has strong plans for reforming the system if elected to power; the party promises to reverse the cuts, reduce primary school class sizes and provide free school meals for all primary children. It will review the ‘teach to the test’ culture and all the bureaucracy it entails, seeking to lessen the burden on young teachers and on the children who see themselves written off as failures. There will be more time devoted to sport, art and music, activities in which many children find enjoyment. A lot of work is needed before schooldays become once more seen as ‘the happiest days of your life.’ Brislington Labour Councillors, Harriet Bradley and Mike Langley Cllr.harriet.bradley@bristol.gov.uk; Cllr.mike.langley@bristol.gov.uk

Councillors Surgery Article by Jos Clark Liberal Democrats
BREAKING NEWS!
I will want to attend as many events as I can in the year from religious services to those supporting charities and schools. I know the joy that local school children get from meeting the Lord Mayor, maybe it’s the red coat?
After a very long period of negotiation, much in the way of meetings and discussions and then a final agreement, I have decided to accept the honour of being the next Lord Mayor of Bristol. I take up this historic position in May 2019 with a sense of pride and a little trepidation, the first Mayor of Bristol was in 1215 and this post was abolished in 1899 when Queen Victoria on a visit to the City knighted Herbert Ashman as the very first Lord Mayor. Our Lord Mayor is only one of two Lord Mayor’s in the whole Country (the other being the Lord Mayor of London). We are the only City outside London to have a State Coach, in fact the City has three carriages altogether. Bristol is the only City to have a Lord Mayor’s Chapel owned by the Council. The Mayoral robes are based on the medieval period where red robes were seen as authority from the Crown, the post holder also has access to 4 swords for ceremonial duties.
Away from the historical aspects of the Lord Mayor, the current post holder has two specific functions, that of representing the City at events and chairing full Council (where those swords might come in handy!)

There is no doubt that 2019 is going to be an historic and challenging year for the Country our great City and myself personally. I will through this office want to work with those who want to make Bristol a better place to live, work and relax in.
Whether it be my colleagues in the Council chamber, the business community or charity workers; the churches and of course the great Bristol public, lets work together especially for the disadvantaged in our local communities. Finally may I wish each and everyone of you a happy, peaceful and successful 2019.

Healthy Chicken jalfrezi Instead of calling the Indian takeaway, make your own easy chicken jalfrezi. This curry is also healthy with two of your 5-a-day and a dose of vitamin C
Ingredients For the sauce ½ large onion, roughly chopped 2 garlic cloves, chopped 1 green chilli, finely chopped vegetable oil, for frying 400g can plum tomatoes 1 tbsp ground coriander 1 tbsp ground cumin 1 tsp turmeric
For the meat & veg 2-3 chicken breasts, diced 1 tsp ground cumin 1 tsp ground coriander 1 tsp turmeric ½ large onion, sliced 1 red pepper, chopped 2 red chillies, finely chopped (optional) 2 tsp garam masala handful of fresh, chopped coriander leaves cooked basmati rice or naan bread to serve
36
Method
Take 2-3 diced chicken breasts and coat in 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp coriander and 1 tsp turmeric then leave it to marinate in the fridge while you make the sauce. To make the sauce, fry ½ roughly chopped large onion, 2 chopped garlic cloves and 1 finely chopped green chilli in a large pan with a little vegetable oil, for around 5 mins, until browned. Add 300ml water to the onion mixture and simmer for around 20 minutes. Meanwhile, put a 400g can plum tomatoes in a food processor and give it a good whizz (aim for a smooth consistency). Heat another large pan and gently fry 1 tbsp coriander, 1 tbsp cumin and 1 tsp turmeric in a splash of oil for about a minute. Add the tomatoes to this pan and simmer for around 10 minutes. Next, whizz your onion mixture in the food processor and add it to the spiced tomato sauce. Season generously, stir, then simmer for 20 minutes. You can make large batches of this sauce and freeze it for later use. Fry the marinated chicken in vegetable oil and stir continuously. After a few minutes, turn down the heat and add the remaining ½ sliced onion, 1 chopped red pepper and 2 finely chopped red chillies. Stir until the onions and pepper soften. Add the sauce you prepared earlier to the cooked chicken and simmer for around 10-20 minutes, adding a splash of water if it gets too thick. Just before you dish it up, stir in 2 tsp garam masala and handful of chopped coriander leaves. Serve with basmati rice or naan bread.
