Honour for Sarah-She is sold gold Weight loss Consultant Sarah Bryant was recognised for the exceptional work she does to support people in the area to achieve their dream weight at a national event for Slimming World’s most successful Consultants.Sarah provides a super service helping her 270 members in Whitchurch and Hengrove to eat more healthily, get more active and build confidence. She was invited to Slimming World’s ‘Gold and Pearl Day 2017’ hosted at the Nottingham Belfry resort by the company’s senior directors on October 8th. The event was exclusive to the organisation’s 70 highest-achieving Consultants to celebrate the outstanding service they consistently provide to their members. Sarah is a Consultant for the Whitchurch and Hengrove Slimming World groups, and the invite puts her in the top 2% of the organisation’s 4,500 Slimming World Consultants across the UK, meaning Whitchurch and Hengrove is home to some of the best slimming support in the country. As part of the day, which was themed around ‘courage and kindness’, Sarah, was invited to share some of her learning’s from running her award-winning groups and to inspire other attendees to continue to ensure fantastic weight losses and members’ success. All guests at the event were treated to a healthy Food Optimising lunch and drinks reception at the Belfry resort and, as well as hearing from the company’s senior Directors about the organisation’s key developments and plans for the year ahead, they were invited to take part in an interactive Q&A session with the company’s founder Margaret Miles-Bramwell, who popped in to meet the attendees in the afternoon. Sarah says: “Helping people from Whitchurch and Hengrove to achieve their dreams makes this the best job in the world and to be recognised nationally for doing something I love really feels fantastic. “Having the chance to get together with other high-achieving Consultants from across the country to share ideas and experiences is yet another example of the superb support that we get as Slimming World franchisees. My job is flexible and rewarding, and although I’m self-employed I feel extremely supported. It’s one big family. “Gold and Pearl day was such a special event to be part of - I think I spent most of the day smiling!
6
I headed home that evening absolutely brimming with ideas for helping my members, and I can’t wait to use what I’ve learnt to take the support I give in group to the next level. I know what it’s like to struggle with your weight and, having lost 2st 7lbs as a Slimming World member myself after joining in 2009, I also know that with the right kind of support you can really make long-term healthy changes to lose weight and keep it off for good. Being able to eat to satisfy my appetite on lots of normal everyday foods like fruit and vegetables, pasta, rice potatoes and lean meat makes a big difference!”
Slimming World has 48 years of experience in helping people to lose weight and lead healthier and happier lives. Its famous Food Optimising eating plan, based on the science of satiety and energy density, empowers members with the knowledge of how to satisfy their appetites and lose weight without calorie counting or obsessive weighing and measuring. Group support, led by Consultants who have lost weight themselves, is based on a deep understanding of the challenges faced by overweight people and recognition that those who struggle with weight carry a double burden, the weight itself and a burden of guilt and shame about their weight. This support helps slimmer’s to make sustainable changes to their behaviour so that they can lose weight and keep it off for the long-term. All Consultants receive in-depth training from the Slimming World Academy to help give their members the support they need to make long-term changes to improve their health and wellbeing as well as passing their new habits on to their family.

Councillors Surgery Article by Jos Clark , Liberal Democrate
I know thats if I was ever to have trouble sleeping at night, that a quick read of the West of England Spatial Strategy would send me off to the land of nod in minutes. This Strategy document is one of many that Local Councillors have to read as part of their role of representing local communities and although this document will never win the Man Booker prize it is very important in its vision and way forward for Bristol and its surrounding neighbours.
This local strategy suggests we need to build by the mid 20s an extra 100,000 houses, that a City the size of Bath! My other major concern about overdevelopment is the clamour from volume house builders to build on the green belt, it will not be long before they are eyeing up the farmland, allotments and maybe even Long Fox Manor on the Bath Road as potential sites for thousands more houses. Bristol will be joined to Keynsham by a vast urban sprawl and the current greenery on the edge of our area will be lost to future generations to use and enjoy forever. So those with influence locally must put more pressure on the Government to develop a comprehensive business strategy that addresses the North/South divide and makes investment in jobs and infrastructure a top priority in areas that have a good supply of local housing, for me our housing crisis is not just one of demand outstripping demand locally, but also a failure to support local communities retain employment and attract workers to area’s where they need the jobs and have the houses, but are forced to leave their homes to seek employment further South.. To a very large extent we are paying the price for being too London centric and not devolved enough throughout the English regions.
Amongst other proposals within its pages are the closure and relocation of the Brislington Park and Ride from its current location to Hicks Gate. The strategy then suggests building 750 homes on the Park and Ride Site to tackle Bristol’s ongoing housing needs. Although this is a brown field site, Hicks Gate is not. I am concerned about the growth of Keynsham and the massive growth in house building there. This has effectively seen a small dormitory Town serving Bristol and Bath, turn into an even larger dormitory Town with lots of housing and little in the way of extra services, shops or even local employment. At some stage policy makers will need to look harder at how technology could change our working habits from the need to travel to a physical location to work to one where we work from home or a local hub. Also as part of any National industrial strategy Government needs to be looking at where there s already a good supply of housing (ie: some parts of the Northeast of England) and develop jobs there, instead of the continual overdevelopment of the South and Southwest which in the end will detrimentally destroy the character of our local towns and villages and of course Bristol itself.
10
Of course Bristol will always need new homes and its right to plan, but what makes Bristol and the West Country so special could be lost forever if we allowed unbridled development to go unchecked this plan is a warning sign to us all.
A Twist on a Classic Pudding
Bread and butter pudding with raspberries and white chocolate
Serves 4 Prepare less than 15 mins (plus up to 30 mins soaking time) Cook 30 mins
Ingredients •1 Brioche loaf •250g unsalted butter •5 egg yolks •100g golden caster sugar •Half vanilla pod •150ml milk •150ml double cream •100g fresh raspberries •100g white chocolate
The Method 1.Slice the loaf, butter it and cut into triangles. 2.Put milk, cream, and vanilla seeds in a pan on a low heat (do not boil). Meanwhile whisk yolks with sugar together in a large bowl. When eggs are pail and creamy, gradually whisk in hot milk/cream until combined. 3.Butter a ceramic dish and arrange a layer of bread and butter. Top this layer with raspberries and white chocolate, then add another layer of bread and butter, followed by fruit and chocolate. Continue until all used up. 4.Pour over the custard to the top and allow to soak for 30 minutes covered. 5.Uncover and top up again if necessary. 6.To cook, place dish in a baking tray and ¾ fill with water and bake at 130°C for 30 minutes. Finish by removing from oven, sprinkling with caster sugar and grilling until golden.
The Twist This is an old favourite when made with sultanas and white bread. But you can really let your imagination run away. How about banana and toffee? Or marmalade and dark choclate.

Your garden in November
The garden begins to wind down in November as deciduous plants enter dormancy. Leaves are falling rapidly and wind and rain are on the increase. Whilst most of nature is hibernating in the colder months. November is a ideal month to get new trees in the grownd. Trees are best planted in the late autumn when the soil is still warm but not too dry, giving roots time to acclimatise before the harsher temperatures of winter arrive. Whatever you plan to do outside in November, take time to enjoy the garden as it fades leaving structural plants and evergreens to take centre stage. Plant of the month: Trees Why should you plant them? Trees add structure to gardens and landscapes. As well as being used as a focal point of the garden they also make good hedges and screens. They come in huge number and varieties shapes and sizes and there is one to suit every taste and position
3 essential gardening jobs for November
Lift and store corms and tubers Lift and store plants such as dahlias and tuberous bedding begonias that have been hit by bad weather. Store in a dry frost free dark place ideally in a layer of sawdust. Check occasionally over winter to ensure they are dry and rot free. Remove any that look suspicious to prevent the risk of infection. Tie in Tall plants and secure structures
Protect tender plants The weather is turning so its time to get those plants protectedfrosts can do serious damage to tender plants. Frost tender plants in pots should be moved to the green house conservatory or porch. Exotic plants such as palms and tree ferns should be wrapped up in the winter with frost protection material
14
An important winter job is to stake tall plants, climbers and small trees to protect against strong winds. Check the exsiting ties are not cutting in to the stems of plants that have grown over summer. Structures such as arches, pergolas and fences should also be checked and ideally treated with a preservative If repaired now there is less potential for damage in high winds.
Enjoy your garden!
While most trees are grown for their foliage and flower, some are praised for thier bark and branch shapes. Some trees look fantastic in spring while in full flower and others burst in to vibrant colour in the autumn. How should you plant them? Young trees should be staked diagonally. This protects them from strong winds and ensures the roots do not get damaged. Most varieties of tree will have specific planting instuctions. There is a tree that will thrive in all soil types from wet soil to poor dry land and everything in between. The best advice is to check the plant label or look it up on an online plant directory.

Bristol Shunted into the Sidings Again Article by Eileen Means
Returning to a previous subject, the cancellation by the Transport Minister Chris Grayling (called “indefinite postponement”) of the electrification of the rail service between Swindon to Bristol Temple Meads and Bath, it has been announced by Network Rail that the Preston to Blackpool North rail line is next on the list to be electrified. Well, a big Whoopee for them! What is the logic applied by this Conservative Government when two of the largest and most profitable cities in the South West are left with the current shambolic train system, yet Blackpool, a far smaller town, a dead end in train line terms, despite similar problems over rising costs and delays to those on the Bristol line, is getting full electrification?
Meanwhile, here in Bristol the promised Hitachi Bi-Mode trains have been launched. Disastrously. The first bi-mode train, diesel from Bristol to Swindon electric from there to London, broke down outside Temple Meads station, IT DIDN’T EVEN MAKE IT TO BATH. Plus, the on-board air-conditioning system failed, causing liquid to leak from vents above the seats.
In the interests of “balanced reporting”, here are the words of Chris Grayling MP the Transport Minister, or perhaps it was Mark Hopwood, Managing Director of GWR these new bi-mode trains are “Just what the travelling public needs”. Really? The new trains have no restaurant car/bar, just a trolley up and down (that will work so well at busy times). In fairness, the claim is ‘more seats, more tables, more legroom and extra luggage space. Improved air con (! )improved passenger information, improved wi-fi, LED information screens. £300 million has been spent of our taxpayers money fitting the new diesel engines to the new fleet of trains.
What a let down for Bristol and Bath; shunted into the sidings again.

Planning for Christmas – you and your Business Christmas comes once a year, at the same time, but we still all get caught out with the organisation of it!
We specialise in answering the phones for people!
We know through working for many businesses over the Christmas period that they have had in the past one more of these dilemmas. One client admitted that before they used the Telephone Answering Service, she could not take holidays abroad – so she went without for 4 years. She now goes away every year without fail.
Decide upfront how you want to handle the Christmas period: Do you need to stay open – if so how many staff Is it your busiest time and you feel you want to increase your staffing availability Is it that sort of time you want to take a break and effectively shut the business for a couple of weeks Do you need to have some sort of presence on the National holiday days – Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day Are people looking for responses during the night or weekends – would it make your business look good to be available night and weekends

STOP USING ELECTRICAL SOCKET SAFETY COVERS! Did you know that by using Electrical Socket Covers you are providing your child with a tool that could potentially lead to serious injury or even death? This month I would like to raise awareness of “FATALLY FLAWED,” A Campaign that was created to demonstrate that Safety Socket Covers are NOT necessary. The full details can be found at www. fatallyflawed.org.uk. Did you know that a baby’s finger is not small enough to go into a socket far enough to touch the live parts? Did you know that there are insulated safety shutters on a socket that close automatically as soon as a plug is removed? We can thank the release of the British Standard BS1363 for protecting our children since 1947 because it was from this year that it became LAW for all sockets to conform to BS1363. The sockets that we use in our businesses and homes are made to accept items which meet very exact requirements. The law also requires that plugs are certified as meeting the requirements.
Did you know that there aren’t any socket covers which are certified as meeting the requirements? Whenever I find a socket cover in use in a property that I am viewing or working in, I always demonstrate to the homeowner the risks involved with using them and advise that they are removed. I have not yet had a situation where the client has not removed and disposed of them. For a demonstration showing the risks of using socket covers please take a look at the video I have created and published to my youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMgoXJS_ n2mz2bEEJkqyDeg If you have any questions or concerns about the sockets in your home, then please don’t hesitate on calling me on 0117 905 7034 and I will be happy to help. Proper Way to Wax a Car
Wax products are non-permanent, and so, your car should be waxed regularly to get the best results. The best car wax products can stay intact for about three months, and provide optimum benefit.
Microfiber towels or 100% cotton are ideal for this. Many experts have proven that microfiber towels offer a much better shine, because the fiber helps remove the wax easily.
Waxing plays a vital role not just in the maintenance of the car, but it also increases the resale its value. Your used car still looks brand new.
Do not touch your car windows, rubber trims and glass surfaces while waxing, as it can be hard to wipe the wax away from these areas afterwards.
Techniques for Car Waxing Opt for a high quality applicator, such as a microfiber sponge.
It is of utmost importance to use the correct type of car wax. While many of them are effective, others are a bit rough. You may choose colored wax but picking the appropriate shade is essential.
* How you apply the wax is also important. When it comes to waxing the side panels, use up and down motions. for the roof, boot and bonnet, apply the wax from front to back. A thin coating of wax gives the right effect, as the excess wax will be wiped out anyway. Keep your applicator slightly wet during the process for best results. For how long you leave the wax on your car varies according to the instructions of the manufacturer. Some advise to remove the wax right away, while others recommend to leave it for about 15 minutes to dry. Wipe the wax by using a clean towel. Do not use the same side of the towel again to prevent any particles from scrubbing against the surface of the car.

HOW TO COMPLIMENT YOUR NEW WOODEN FLOOR WITH THE RIGHT DÉCOR.
You’ve made the decision to have you floor sanded and of course it looks stunning. But how can you be sure to get the best from it? Amanda Cunnington from Floor Blimey! Carpet Cleaners and Dust free timber floor sanders tells us how. The good news here is that the simple ways to décor are best and matching is no longer the way to go. A room full of the same colour and type of wood is old fashioned and boring. And it’s impractical. After all not many of us have the money to completely furnish a room in one fell swoop. So a room can be brought together over time and this is the best way it can reflect your life and personality too. A good example is the light maple floor I have in my lounge, bought off ebay it was reclaimed from an old gym and we lay and sanded it ourselves. It looked stunning and as soon as it was finished I began hunting for a new tv cabinet to match but tied myself up in knots trying to find the same shade. After an exhaustive search I shelved the idea thinking I would come back to it when perhaps I had some more money. A few weeks later I came across by chance an old pine double school desk with lift up lid and inkwell on ebay. In fact it came complete with a little graffiti too. We decided £25 was a bargain and that we could sand it and stain it to look just like the floor. But as soon as we brought it home I could see its beauty just as it was.
Even down to the set of childs initials scratched into it with biro. We sawed the legs shorter and it became our new tv cabinet. I’ve even drawn a heart on it and put in mine and my husbands initials to carry the theme! Another reason my old school desk works so well is that the pine may not exactly match my floor in colour but it has the same tone and grain as the maple on the floor. As long as woods can compliment each- other it doesn’t matter if they are different. So look for woods that have the same grain size and warm or cool tones. Another way to make different woods work together is use light paint. Imagine a dark wood floor with a medium wood table and dark walls. This just feels oppressive and dungeon like, but a big light room will separate the tones of the wood and let each item of furniture stand out individually and stop them merging together into a dark and sombre mood. And finally and most importantly- think about whether you like it! There’s no point in trying to create the latest must have look if it doesn’t represent and match your style. So shop around and try what you like then go with what feels right. After all, its YOU that has to live with it.
