BillyChip was created to continue the legacy of Billy Abernethy-Hope, a twenty year old ambulance driver from Bristol, who was Jon's son and Megan's brother. BillyChip is a social enterprise platform which allows people to purchase a token from participating food and drink outlets which can then be given to rough sleepers and homeless people as an alternative to cash. The Great British Entrepreneur Awards, in partnership with Starling Bank, acknowledges and champions the hard work and uplifting stories of business owners across the UK, with an emphasis on their journey and resilience over financial achievements. Being recognised for what we do and how we do it is amazing and Meg and I are very proud to be finalists in these incredible awards which champion our work and help us share BillyChip's purpose and mission." Founder of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards, Francesca James, said the quality of this year's entrants exemplified the strength of entrepreneurship across the UK: "The quality of applications is consistently excellent year on year, but we have been especially blown away by the innovation, dri ve and determination demonstrated this year. Shortlisting from so many inspiring contenders has been more challenging than ever, with many deserving cases put forward and an ever-growing business community thriving across the country."

Jon Hope, Co-Founder at BillyChip said: "Last year was a real milestone for BillyChip, and we set new records in terms of grants received, new volunteers signing up and outlets coming on board to operate the scheme.

MASSIVE NEW DEVELOPMENT FOR BRISLINGTON WEST

BRISLINGTON GREENWAY IN DANGER

Local residents may remember that the planning applications to construct an active travel corridor along the former Brislington Railway Line, together with pop-up office spaces, passed with unanimous cross-party support at a planning meeting back in the spring. Since then, we have been frustrated by the lack of progress and have been in regular contact with the applicants and the planning department to try and get things moving. Unfortunately, the applicants have told us they are having to pause the scheme as the Labour-run council now want an additional £10,000 worth of reports before giving the final go-ahead. Meanwhile, construction costs continue to rise, and with only a three-year temporary permission in place, the viability of the scheme is starting to be in doubt. If the active travel scheme fails to materialise, this leaves the way clear for the council to push ahead with their plans to have motorised vehicles on the Greenway instead, something we have been resisting for the last five years. We will keep you updated as soon as we get more information.

MASSIVE NEW DEVELOPMENT BRISLINGTON WEST

Sovereign Housing has now launched a public consultation on the next big development for Brislington West, Castle Court, opposite Sainsbury’s, which is currently occupied by City Motors. You can find out more about the proposals and have your say using the attached link: https://www.sovereign.org.uk/developing-homes/castle-court

NEW EV CHARGING AT TESCO

We are delighted to see that Brislington Tesco has started installing EV charging in its car park, which will provide free electrical charges while you shop. We have been calling for this infrastructure for some time, so we are pleased that it will shortly be in place. We are hopeful other local supermarkets will follow suit and we are also pushing for council-owned car parks to install EV charging as well.

OUR LATEST COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER

We believe in keeping local residents informed all year round, not just at election time! We are the only team who regularly deliver newsletters throughout the year and our latest one is hitting the doorsteps right now. We want to thank the local residents who volunteer to deliver the newsletter to every household across the ward. If you would like to volunteer for an hour or so every few months to help deliver the local news, please get in touch.
