Through my experience with computer programming in Code Nation, I have grown more fond of coding. Initially I didn’t think I would be so interested in programming, but now that I have done a few projects like this one, I’m excited and am hoping to do even more. This is a project that I worked on during the Code Nation Hackathon at GitHub. The goal of this project was to create a fun game to teach people about how their actions can lead to harmful consequences on Earth's environment. We had 4 hours to write the code. It was a group project with 5 other people, and through teamwork, we were able to create a game similar to an RPG like "Life Is Strange”. During the Hackathon, I was in charge of the HTML and CSS parts of the project, and created an appealing and clean design. We were able to create a visually appealing game that used the marquee tag to create scrolling text. I also played around with the different types of borders to make it look even better. I found groove to be the most exciting border and I believe it was a great choice for the project.

While my other teammates were working on the JavaScript portion of the project, I was working diligently to make the text look amazing, the format look like a masterpiece, and find new ways to improve it. I was extremely glad when my teammates said, "Wow! I came back after working on the JavaScript and it looks amazing!” The recognition made me want to do even more, so I found a font that would fit our theme of an RPG game, "Press Start 2P". Finding new ways to improve the project was so fun and intriguing. As most of my teammates were from other schools, I learned new ways of coding that were somewhat different from what I did. One of the members taught me how to use local storage so we could create an attempt counter for the game. It was a splendid time where I learned new coding skills, and my interest in coding kept growing as my group approached the end of the project. This project just made me want to follow a career in programming even more. I always wanted to learn how to create a game and this was the first step to creating my ideal game. -Josh
