What is the Google AMP Project & How Will Accelerated Mobile Pages Affect Your Business?
Some time ago, Google began to work on a way to help make the mobile web run quicker and more smoothly than ever before. Now, that promise has been delivered in the form of the Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) Project. With AMP, Google has literally changed the field of web page design and search engine interfacing. By creating an open-source platform that is quick and easy to use, just about anyone can create fast-loading, well-designed mobile web pages for their business, which is sure to attract new customers and clients right to your door.
What is AMP? AMP is basically a bare-bones version of the typical mobile web platform. By stripping away much of the filler and useless clutter that goes into many web pages, as well as confusing or contradictory script options, Google has found a way to offer a stripped-down way to make web pages that load faster without getting bogged down in all the extras that can drag a web page down. Typically, an AMPdesigned page can load anywhere from 15–85% faster than a competing web page with similar content, allowing customers and potential clients to have a quicker and more satisfying time when they are on your site checking out your firm. Since research has shown that many customers will simply abandon a

web page if it takes more than four or five seconds to load, AMP is another way to make sure your pages end up in front of the right clients at the right time.
How does it work? AMP works by offering a stripped-down code (one which is based on existing code, but is very Googlecentric and contains some of Google’s own special “tweaks”). For every page of content, you essentially have to create two pages: one that is normal, and one that exists in this very specific version of AMP code. Be aware that not everything you want to put on a page can go into the AMP code. So, while the AMP-version of the page might be the first one that a customer sees, to get to other pages, or to open certain types of content (like contact forms, for example) the second, fuller version of the page is also important and should be mobile-ready.
But what about SEO? If you know anything about online marketing, then you know that search engine optimization (SEO) is an important part of the total puzzle. The more search engine-friendly your site, the higher it will show in the search results, which leads to more clicks. While AMP does not technically affect mobile SEO techniques, it is an important thing to consider. This is because currently AMP-created sites are showing up in a special carousel above the regular, organic search results. This means these sites are already potentially rated higher, and more prone to be clicked. In addition, because Google’s mobile search results are, in part, shaped by how mobile-friendly a page is, making your page quicker and easier to load is another way to get your page higher in the results. Of course, other mobile SEO techniques are also important. For example: Make sure your content is fresh and original and contains appropriate keywords. Pay attention to the metadata on your pages, and take some time to align all content such as contact information. Including customer reviews is another way to help boost your firm’s SEO. Putting these together will certainly help make your page easier to find and more enticing to visit!
What are the benefits of AMP? If you’re wondering why you might want to consider implementing AMP, and then consider the following: a) Speed: As mentioned earlier, AMP is designed specifically to make mobile pages load quicker. With the short attention span of the average consumer these days, you can’t afford to have a page that takes more than a couple of seconds to load. AMP can help your page to load quickly and smoothly, without any hiccups.

b) A Better User Experience: This faster loading of content means happier customers and clients, all around. Instead of having to wait for a page to load, customers and can get in, do what needs to be done, and get on with life. With potential clients, this means less time hunting around before deciding whether or not to make contact. c) More Future Traffic: as consumers catch on to the AMP experience and all that it can offer them, it’s projected they will be more likely to look for sites that are identified as AMPified (the technical term for it). So, very soon having an AMP site may not be a choice, it might be a matter of necessity.
