MultICath trial news It is a while since we last updated you about MultICath and you may be wondering what is happening with this research. This trial aims to test the safety of mixed intermittent catheter use – that means sometimes using single use, disposable catheters and, at other times, using reusable catheters which are cleaned between uses. We have been working with men and women catheter users and have found that cleaning catheters with Milton solution (as used for babies’ bottles and teats) effectively removes bacteria, does not damage the catheter surface and is acceptable to catheter users. They have reported that there are advantages and disadvantages to single use and reuse of catheters - cleaning and re-using catheters means not running out, having fewer catheters to take when out or to throw away whereas single use catheters are always ready to use and there is no need to carry used catheters. Mixed use may give catheter users the benefits of both methods. However, we do need to check that mixed intermittent catheter use does not cause more urinary tract infection or other problems than only using single-use catheters. This we will find out in the MultICath Trial with the help of 500+ catheter users.
The trial started last summer with a lot of positive interest from catheter users and health care professionals. Unfortunately, a problem with the supply of the catheters to participants by GPs meant we had to temporarily stop the trial. However, we have been working hard to get the trial back on track and we are hoping to re-start next year. The MultICath trial will answer important research questions identified by catheter users and healthcare professionals. Thank you for your interest!

Access to the Supplier Directory is via the Disabled Living Website
Throughout 2016 we have consulted with a wide range of people who use Disabled Living’s Supplier Directory – professionals, service users, commercial colleagues and third sector organisations. They told us how much they valued the Supplier Directory, so we have made it easier to navigate and search for equipment, products and services. We have increased the number of words you can submit to describe your products and you can have separate wording for each category. You can list your equipment, products or services in up to five relevant categories. At Disabled Living we have access to over 52,000 (continually increasing) people on our databases. We have had 386,926 page views, 98,945 visitors and 133, 845 sessions on our websites. Contact us to see how you can become part of our Supplier Directory.
