Highlighting Recent Publications Progress towards real equality for disabled people over the past twenty years is insufficient and 'littered with missed opportunities and failures'. That’s according to the Chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission following the publication of Being disabled in Britain: A journey less equal, the most comprehensive analysis ever on how the rights of disabled people are protected in Great Britain.
The sixth edition of Disability Facts and Figures, published by The Papworth Trust, highlights some of the principle challenges facing disabled people, most notably in the areas of employment, social care and housing. For the first time ever, the report explored the way in which disabled people are treated in the criminal justice system and their participation in the democratic process. This Cerebra Problem-Solving Toolkit aims to support disabled people and carers, as well as their families and advisers, who are encountering difficulties with the statutory agencies in relation to the provision of health, social care and education support services. UK law provides powerful rights to such support services, but this alone is insufficient. The law can be complicated and difficult to understand. Even when you know what your rights are, it can be daunting, exhausting and sometimes intimidating to challenge public officials.
Running Shoes are Ready! Matt Woodiwiss from the Royal Bank of Scotland is running the Manchester 10k! Matt said “I am running the Manchester 10k again on Sunday May 28th and this year I have chosen to raise funds for the Disabled Living Charity. I became involved with the charity by helping out at their "Kidz to Adultz" events. These are exhibitions which are totally dedicated to children with disabilities and additional needs, their parents and their carers. I found these events to be a very humbling and rewarding experience and one can only admire the strength and resilience shown by the children and their families in the face of quite often severe adversity. As ever, any donation is gratefully received and very much appreciated Go for it Matt!

Our latest Workshop: Single Handed Care. “The 20 minute per exhibitor format was very good for getting all the delegates involved. Even those therapists who said they know our products gained fresh insight. Wished we could have had longer ” David Lomas, Ergolet
I would like to say a big THANKYOU to everyone who Attended our Single Handed Care Workshop last Friday 28th April. The day was facilitated by Deborah Harrison who gave us an insightful presentation on the impacts of Single Handed Care and the dilemmas faced by those implementing it. Following the presentation we were all separated into Groups and we went in to the exhibitors room with workbooks we had been provided with. Each company had a scenario/problem written to discuss with us and show us how their equipment could be used by people implementing Single Handed Care . It was not at all a hard sell by the companies , more of them showing us their knowledge of their products in a useful and engaging way. They all know their products very well and I know some tricks of the trade were learned.
There was some great feedback both flattering and constructive from the delegates and exhibitors alike. “The delivery of the training was excellent. I enjoyed the background but also enjoyed the fact it was hands on. Saw some great products and was able to try them out. I have learned something about how to prepare a business case to support single Handed care plus learned how important it is to keep hard figures on the cases we are dealing with. “ Alison K, Delegate For more information on our courses please visit our website or call 0161 607 8200.
