Tamil Nadu is ready for India’s biggest cycling event…

The Tamil Nadu Cycling League (TCL) is India’s first and largest track cycling league, founded by Mr. Sudhakar and Co-founded by Dr. J.P. Leelaram. Mr Sudhakar is a former motorcycling champion and is currently the owner of a franchise of Anna Nagar Cycles. Dr. J.P Leelaram is the Founder and Managing Director of Brand Blitz Event Management Private Limited. With their combined forces, they conceptualized and brought to life TCL, a prime league for cyclists in Tamil Nadu.

TCL’s primary mission is to create a platform for cyclists to showcase their skills and develop cycling as a sport in Tamil Nadu. The league holds a selection process for more than 1,000 riders and selects only about 100 riders from them. These riders are segregated into 8 teams, representing the 7 major cities of Tamil Nadu – Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Salem, Vellore, Kanyakumari, and Madurai. The teams are as follows – Namma Chennai Riders, Madras Pro Racers, Kovai Pedals, Trichy Rockfort Riders, Salem Super Riders, Rancycers, Kumari Riders, and Madurai Mass Riders.

The league saw a successful season 1 race last year at the Madras International Circuit, and now with the season 2 race, they are upping the ante. Having partnered with The Tamil Nadu Government and the Sports Welfare Development Association of Tamil Nadu (SDAT), the Honourable Sports Minister of Tamil Nadu Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin, conducted a soft launch for the season 2 race. He magnanimously extended the government’s support for the race by sponsoring 5 Lakh Rupees and officially launching the jerseys for the TCL Season 2 Race. The event will be held on Oct 21 and 22, at the Kari Motorway Track in Coimbatore.

Wowing Millenials

There has been an increase in participation this year, with more youth taking part in cycling sports. The endorsement from the government will surely motivate young cyclists, give them the recognition they are entitled to. Namma Chennai’s own TCL will bring on the magic of International races like Tour De France, Giro d’Italia, and the Vuelta a Espana to our roads.

“The event aims to introduce cycling as a sport in Tamil Nadu and generate more cycling talent. Last year’s title winner received 3 lakh prize money. 1st runner 2 lakh and 2nd runner Up 1 lakh. This initiative is to motivate young cycling talents. In a few years, Tamilnadu will have more National Champions in cycling.”

Life always presents us a certain situation which takes us to a path we never expected to take and surprises us. We never truly know what awaits us ahead in the time of our lives. Ms. Adhieswari was a homemaker with a passion in teaching. Her teaching profession slowly started to take a different direction in 2014 when she had to go through 48 days without eating rice or wheat due to a religious vow. It was just a starting point of a new journey. While searching for alternative food items to eat instead of rice, she stumbled upon millets which is rich in fiber and many minerals but it was not an easy task to cook it. At that point of time, not many knew recipes for millets. Her only way to find was through numerous trial and errors during those 48 days. She wanted to share her recipes with others and began ‘Millet cookery class’ workshops to spread her acquired knowledge on millets. Ms. Adhieswari’s millet recipes were so good her students, relatives and well wishers offered her an idea to open a food business. The idea inspired her to start a restaurant. This was born her restaurant ‘Millet Maagic Meal’ at Alwarpet with only 8 dishes and 1 combo pack under cloud kitchen this she began her odyssey in October 2016.

Challenges aplenty

Delivering the prepared food to customers at the right time was what was most calleng ing for her in the beginning. No swiggy or zomato services were available till mid 2017 which made her, her husband and other two delivery boys the only source to deliver food to customers who live in different directions. Even during those hard times, she continued to experiment to find new recipes. Her sincerity, ‘no compromise in recipe’ motto and consistency in delivering quality food ensured a loyal clientile. Her menu covered all bases from karuvepillai millet idlis to millet pizzas. She expanded her business gradually to open her own second restaurant now with more than 250 items of her own recipes. Over the course of seven years, Millet Maagic Meal has managed to garner over 3 lakh customer base and is still growing.
