A HUGE THANK YOU FROM WHITTLESEY EMERGENCY FOOD AID

This editorial is normally about church matters, but it’s important to share some good community news when there is so much fear and uncertainty. This amazing community can justifiably pat itself on the back and say, “Well done!”.

As many of you may already know, since 2014, in addition to being a vibrant, growing and exciting church family, Whittlesey Christian Church has been the main contact point for Whittlesey Emergency Food Aid (WEFA), and many other services relevant to meeting the needs of our community and helping it to become a great place to live. We are happy to have not only played our part in helping to initially create the Food Aid programme, specifically designed for the Whittlesey catchment area, but also, to coin an old phrase, ‘put our money where our mouth was’. During the last six years our church family has freely offered its facilities to not only become the storage and distribution centre, but to also provide free access to its design and marketing facilities. This has resulted in huge savings for WEFA which has enabled it to focus on its main aim of being a vital, caring support to those struggling to feed their families and themselves. As the demand has significantly increased, amazingly so has the supply, each week we have been able to meet every need. On behalf of all those we are serving let me thank everyone who has helped to make this possible, whether it’s been through cash donations or food items, individuals, groups or companies. Please understand that space does not permit the singling out of any one name or group. On behalf of Marija and myself, who keep the organisational and supply side of things moving, and Sue Jennings who keeps turning out a constant supply of food parcels, we say, “Whittlesey, we honour you; you should be proud of what you are doing.”

Brian Smithyman (Pastor of Whittlesey Christian Church, Broad Street)
