Stroud Dispensary
Courtney Cornett is true Oklahoman, born and raised with the Oklahoma heart of helping people. Courtney chose Medical Cannabis to help her community. In helping others around her, Courtney found a career that she is passionate about. When Cannabis passed Courtney went to work getting the ordinances passed, meeting with the City of Stroud and the City attorneys, then it all came down to a vote at City Council passing the ordinances 4 to 1. A great victory for the people of Stroud. Courtney’s real work began, opening Stroud Dispensary in January 2020. After working in a clinical setting for 6 years before opening Stroud Dispensary. Courtney knew cannabis could serve her community. She says “the best part of owning a dispensary is learning each one of our patients’ stories and how cannabis has changed their life. Each person who walks in the door needs us for something that day, whether it is a laugh or a shoulder to cry on. We hear the good, the bad, and the ugly. We listen to their issues and try to help them find something that will help.” Working with Cannabis has its challenges. Since the cannabis industry is constantly changing, from new products to new guidelines. Surrounding herself with strong women helped Courtney rise to the top. “I couldn’t have gotten where I am today without the help of Charla Munn and Amanda Tuttle. They are without a doubt what keeps things going when I am with my family. It has taken all three of us hard work, determination, blood, sweat and just a couple tears to make this business a success. My family has been a tremendous support, they have sacrificed the most with my long hours away and all the stress that comes with owning your own business. Can’t thank my husband David enough for believing in me.” Cannabis is historically a male ran industry, women like Courtney are leading the way and inspiring other women to get into business with Cannabis. She seeks out other women-owned and local to do business with. Setting her business apart from others by offering the best customer service, and knowledgeable staff. Creating a welcoming space for men and women, where everyone feels comfortable asking questions and finding products that work for them. Working hard to keep the best products on the market and as local as possible. Courtney says buying local keeps money in our community where it can do the most good. Courtney believes in investing in her community. As a mother of 3 boys, Austin 9, Cody 9, and Cash 7, she knows how important sports are for the community. Each season she donates little league uniforms, which we all know is a big help to local parents and keeps kids busy. Courtney helps with any community projects and fundraising projects she can, such as Town Talk to help keep Stroud Main Street maintained. Recently made room in the front of the Dispensary for Helping Hands food pantry, where community members can take what they need and leave what they can. Courtney is delighted to grow her business in her hometown and has had tons of local support. Courtney gushed “I couldn’t have made it this far without the support of my community.” Courtney says for a woman to succeed in business she has to be determined, flexible, understanding, knowledgeable, fierce; she must be surrounded by an incredible support system, and she can never give up. Continue setting goals and crushing them. Face challenges head-on and make sure you’re doing something you love. Courtney’s advice to other women “I’d say it’s going to be hard but rewarding. Surround yourself with people who believe in you when you don’t believe Courtney Cornett in yourself, make you laugh when you want to cry, and never let you give up when things get tough. I still look around in amazement because I built a business I love.”
