Greetings Stroud Citizens,
Happy New Year! Wishing everyone happiness and prosperity in 2024. We are excited to tell you about one thing to look forward to in the new year.
Disc Golf is the second fastest growing sport behind pickle ball. Stroud’s healthy living goals is to get people outdoors and exercising. We feel if we can get youth involved and motivated to play disc golf, parents can’t help but see how enjoyable the sport is and become involved Matt Bell, disc golf pro and course designer, designed and helped build Eagle Valley Disc Golf Course. The course with its elevation changes, unique layout, and longest hole in the state is currently ranked 4th in Oklahoma. Matt has designed a second course and is in the process of development. It should be completed at the end of January. The new course will be located between the Boy scout campsite and the lake. With the rocks and lake views, it looks to be just as breath taking and unique as Eagle Valley. The addition of a second course at the lake will make us eligible for bigger and higher-level tournaments in the future.

The path we have taken to involve the youth has been to install a Par 3 course in Foster Park. This was built to be more of a beginner course for starters and located close enough to the Stroud Elementary School, they could possibly work it in to their recreation program. Matt has agreed to donate a portable basket and 100 discs for elementary school. He has agreed to be available to help with techniques and demonstrations. A big shout out and thank you to Matt Bell and his crew who have worked endlessly to make the Disc Golf Program a huge success in Stroud!
