In Loving Memory
Edward “Ed” Dyer
July 27, 1958 - July 24, 2024
Life and Legacy
Edward Lewis Dyer was born on July 27, 1958, in Cushing, Oklahoma to Robert Eugene Dyer and Geneva Catherine Mizer Dyer. He passed from this life into the Heavenly realm on July 27, 2024, in Oklahoma City. When he was twelve, after his mother rejoined her heavenly Father, his father remarried, and he gained a stepmother Shirley, and three stepbrothers –Raymond, Bill, and Doug Crumley. Edward was raised in Healdton, OK, where he spent many happy days with his family and friends. Sports were a big part of his extracurricular time, where he made so many memories with school pals who were very dear to him. Football and track were his sports of choice.
He and his wife celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in May of this year. He achieved his goal of creating a family of his own when the couple had two daughters, Paige and Malorie, whom he loved very much. The kind of life he led touched many lives around him. His love for the Lord influenced him to be a wonderful boss. In earlier years, he began his medical career as an orderly, working at South Community Hospital. His passion for excellence led his family to his first CEO titled position in Indiana. His most recent placement was at Stroud Regional Hospital, where he served as administrator. (James 1:12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him). He garnered so many wonderful relationships and set a precedent for what it means to be a leader. He loved what he did. Lots of people “leave work at work,” but he loved the team very much and he spoke highly of them, just as he would with family.
In his leisure time, Edward enjoyed cycling by the Oklahoma river, watching football, gardening, and spending time with his favorite canine pal, “Bo-bo.” The family took many trips; spending time in places, some of his favorites were Red River, New Mexico and Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Every morning, he set his alarm extra early to ensure he had time to study and soak in God’s word. He delighted in teaching Sunday school at Bethesda Church. He was a prayer warrior. Shortly before he passed, he had a “burning bush moment,” where he felt led to pursue ordination. But his life and the lives he touched around him did not require formal credentials. (following verse taken from a recently composed notecard) Isaiah 55:11 reads – So is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. He is survived by his wife Darrelyn, daughters Paige Dyer, Norman, OK, Malorie Dyer, Austin, TX, his mother-in-law Louise Maxfield of OKC, stepbrother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Kena Crumley of Tuttle, OK, Bill Crumley – step brother of Afton, OK, and a host of other family members and friends. Edward was preceded in death by his mother, Geneva Dyer, father Gene Dyer, sister Anita Dyer, stepmother Shirley Dyer, father-in-law Darrel Maxfield, and stepbrother Doug Crumley.
