Pure Adrenalin It’s been a labour of love (and sometimes pulling our hair out), and you’ve got the final results in your hands or on your screens. The first edition of our new newsletter “Pure Adrenalin” came into the world in March, weighing in at a healthy 4 pages. The newsletter is a way for us to let you, the divers that keep us doing what we do best, informed of important events at Adrenalin Snorkel & Dive. It’s also a forum for information about the dive community as a whole.

So if you’ve got feedback about the content, or suggestions for things you’d like to see added or removed, don’t be shy. Send us any suggestions to info@adrenalindive.com.au and we’ll see what we can do.
We’ll be bringing you articles about how diving changes over the years, and what these changes may mean to you. Whether it be in training, gear, or technology, diving changes as often as the latest style in wetsuits.
As the newsletter grows, we’ll also be seeking your input in the form of photos. Divers love to share what they’ve seen, and claim the bragging rights by showing their photos, So if you’ve got any photos that you’ve taken while on a trip with us that you think the world needs to see, send them our way.

to normal air. Common blends are 32% and 36% oxygen.
Enriched Air Nitrox, usually just called Nitrox, is PADI’s most popular specialty course. It’s easy to see why once you realize the benefits of diving on Nitrox.
Since we all know that the air we dive with is composed of roughly 21% oxygen and 79% Nitrogen, you can see that by raising the percentage of oxygen in the tank, we’re lowering the percentage of Nitrogen.
Nitrox is essentially a mix of gases that has a higher percentageof oxygen compared
Because Nitrogen is the factor in deciding decompression times, a lowered amount
of it in our breathing gas allows us to stay at certain depths for longer. It’s a fantastic way to dive the Yongala! The Nitrox course is conducted in less than one day of classroom study, plus 2 dives on Nitrox. To book a course, or to find out more information about Enriched Air, or any of the other specialties we teach, give us a call, send us an email, or drop in for a chat.

Sea-Esta’s Voyage of Renewal With cyclone Ului hovering east of Queensland, there’s not much going on at sea. In port, however, crew are hustling and bustling on repairs and maintenance onboard MV Sea-Esta. Townsville’s only liveaboard is getting a bit of a facelift and her power plants are being rebuilt in readiness for the Easter weekend. Two trips are planned for Easter. There’s a 2-day, 2night trip on the 2nd of April, and a 3-day, 3-night trip departing on the 6th.
As a bonus, and to celebrate the season, all VIP Members (see below) will get free gear rental for the trip. That’s a saving of $60. What better way to enjoy a long weekend than by spending a couple of days diving our spectacular local attractions? The 2-day trip will visit the beautiful Wheeler Reef, where you’ll have a chance to explore this wonderful Green Zone at your own pace. The 3-day trip will spend a day at Wheeler, followed by another day at Davies Reef where you
can explore the channels of the Maze, and spiral slowly around the pinnacle of the Lion’s Den. Both trips will be capped with the grand finale, Australia’s best dive, the S.S. Yongala. You’ll wake up at the site of this historic wreck, and after a quick bite, the pool is open. Sunrise diving on the wreck has to be seen to be believed!
Start lining up, SeaEsta’s nearly ready
Both trips are filling fast. For booking information, give us a call, or drop in to the shop and have a chat.

Manta Ray
The manta ray (Manta birostris) is the largest species of the rays. The largest known specimen was more than 7.6 metres (25 ft) across, with a weight of about 2,300 kilograms (5,100 lb). It ranges throughout tropical waters of the world, typically around coral reefs. They have the largest brain-to-body ratio of the sharks and rays. Mantas have a variety of common names, including Atlantic manta, Pacific manta, devilfish, and just manta. At one time it was thought that there were many species of
Mantas feed on plankton, fish larvae and the like, filtered from the water passing through their gills as they swim. They catch small prey organisms on flat horizontal plates of russetcolored spongy tissue spanning spaces between the manta's gill bars. Manta Rays are one of many species of large rays that have been sighted on the wreck of the S.S. Yongala over the past few weeks. Also spotted have been Eagle Rays, Bull Rays and Whiptail Rays. Crew Who’s Who He’s the man. The head honcho. The big cheese. It seems only fitting that in this first edition of Pure Adrenalin we feature the man with whom it all began. Paul Crocombe is the General Manager of Adrenalin Snorkel & Dive. What Paul has forgotten about diving is probably more than most ever learn. Paul has been working in the dive business in various capacities in the Townsville area
Whether he’s talking about diving many of the uncharted and rarely explored wrecks in the area, or talking about his love of spearfishing, it’s obvious that Paul still loves the ocean and all it’s attractions.
Paul Crocombe
Paul recently received an 10 Year award from PADI Asia Pacific that recognizes his considerable contributions to diving in North Queensland.
for over 20 years, and his indepth knowledge of the area is second to none in the region.
We’re sure that the next 10 years will be as full of adventure.
