Children have rights. They have the right to protection, education, nutrition and medical care amongst other things. Each child, wherever living, has the right to grow up as a decent human being. This seems perfectly logical, and certainly no one would contradict this. The reality, however, is different. Children do not have enough food or the opportunity to develop. They are children who do not even know they are allowed to play.

About t h e Roma set t l e ment Jarovnice
It is the largest Roma settlement of rural type in Central Europe
It is inhabited by approximately 4500 inhabitants, 2233 of which are children and young people under age 15. In the village, there are two primary schools and one special school, where capacity cannot cover the annual supply of first graders. Due to the lack of space, children go to school on a 2 – shift basis. In the village there is no playground, sports field or youth centre. The Community Centre closed down in 2004. There is no Roma band, dance group, football club, or craftsmen in the village.

Where did we start?
Directly in the village, we opened the art and sports after-school clubs: theatre, music, sports, art and dance Many children through the project travelled outside the village and slept away from home for the first time (attending summer camps, art school, workshops, visit to Spis Castle) Many of them also got their own musical instruments, school and art supplies, or sports equipment We have created an opportunity and space for meetings, learning, sports and leisure activities
