Native American Storytelling

Native Americans have rich oral traditions. History and heritage have been passed down from generation to generation through storytelling. Please join the Office of Diversity Initiatives as we welcome Fran “Grandma Coyote” Chastain to our campus. Grandma Coyote began storytelling early on, entertaining her dog, her doll, her horse, and a family full of cousins until they would beg for mercy! Today, Fran devotes her retirement years to teaching others about nature and the ways of the Creator through her stories, medicines, and art.

The Holocaust: A Survivor’s Story During the Holocaust, often referred to as the Shoah, approximately six million European Jews were systematically exterminated by the Nazis. As told by Suzan Hagstrom in her book, Sara’s Children, Helen Garfinkel Greenspun and her family were among the persecuted. Please join us as Mrs. Greenspun personally shares her compelling story of survival, and as she reveals what sustained her and members of her family during a time of genocide. Also, learn about the Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Florida as Executive Director, Pam Kancher, discusses the importance of “preserving the past to protect the future.”
