Diversity Week Student Poster Contest Winners While Diversity Week may be a few months away, October to be precise, planning is underway, dates have been set (October 13 - 17), and a poster has been designed. This year we brought back the Diversity Week Student Poster Contest, and it was a tremendous success. Thank you to all of the UCF students who took the time to create and enter a poster in the contest. Your work was impressive! On Friday, April 11, seven dedicated and committed judges with backgrounds in the arts and knowledge of diversity and inclusion judged 45 Diversity Week Poster Contest submissions. The judges agreed that the quality of the entries was extraordinary and showed understanding of design and layout as well as sensitivity to the Diversity Week theme of “Remember and Reflect – The Civil Rights Act of 1964.” In fact, after reviewing the entries, the Office of Diversity Initiatives decided to not only provide the first place winner with a monetary award, but to extend monetary awards to second, third, and fourth places as well. The poster created by our first place winner will be mass reproduced and distributed in the UCF and Central Florida communities. In addition, the top four artists will be recognized in the Diversity Breakfast program on Monday, October 13, 2014 and will have their posters exhibited, during the month of October 2014, on the display wall on the second (main) floor of the John C. Hitt Library. Eleven Honorable Mentions, in no particular order, also were selected. These artists will have their posters exhibited, during the month of October 2014, on the display wall on the second (main) floor of the John C. Hitt Library.

LEGACY Student Making Strides By: Zakiya McGhie
One of our shining scholars this semester is Ms. Sakena Whilby, Junior and a Human Resources Management and Psychology Major. Sakena recently earned a position on the University of Central Florida’s President’s Leadership Council (PLC). This is a highly esteemed position for a UCF student because her voice represents exemplary leadership as an official student ambassador at events such as Commencement,
Board of Trustees’ meetings, Board of Governors’ meetings, and even gubernatorial visits. As a member of the PLC, Ms. Whilby will receive great training in leadership, administration, and public relations. After an extensive application process, reflecting an impressive collegiate career, and a comprehensive 12-member panel interview, Ms. Whilby was selected as the newest member for the 2014-2015 academic year. Ms.
Whilby is willing to share her knowledge with others interested in applying to the PLC: “The biggest thing that helps [the] application lead to the interview is one’s involvement on campus. I’m not sure if that covers everything but if [anyone has] any questions, I’m happy to answer them.” We applaud Ms. Sakena Whilby, and all our scholars who continue to pursue greatness with diligence and confidence.
