We have received the Global ISO Certification and the quality label for our new Dive Professional Programs is in place for their release the beginning of July. Since 1970, SSI has been a leader in professional diving education. Most people focus on getting a "real job," however; there are many employment opportunities in the scuba industry that fit this label. Dive retailers and resorts have immediate openings for qualified professionals domestically and around the world. With SSI being one of the fastest growing training agencies in the world, there are huge career opportunities that have been created. Why SSI Have you thought about your partner in the area of dive training lately? With our 40th anniversary, we would like to take this opportunity to share with you some of the aspects of SSI along with the services we offer. You may be very well aware of these or there might be one or two that you weren't aware until nowâ&#x20AC;Ś SSI is an international training agency operating in the dive industry since 1970. With over 2,400 Dive Centers and Dive Resorts in more than 110 countries, educational materials translated in 25 languages and 40 years of experience in diver and snorkeler education, SSI is a sign of quality. SSI is one of the few training organizations worldwide which holds the Global ISO (International Standards Organization) Certificate. Five SSI Diver Programs and two Dive Professional Programs received the confirmation that they fulfill the international quality standards (ISO Norm 24801-1 to-3 for divers and ISO Norm 24802-1 to -2 for dive professionals). This is why the SSI Certification Cards can carry the ISO quality label. Besides playing a leading role in the diving industry, SSI is also a founding member of the Recreational Scuba Training Council (RSTC). What this means to you is that SSI is recognized anywhere you want to train. The SSI System is the most flexible and adaptable education system in the industry. The ability to adapt training to local conditions and students' needs while staying within standards enables SSI Dive Centers and Dive Resorts to offer real-world programs in order to train safe and competent divers. The foundation for flexibility is the 80/20 rule. This rule means that only 80%

of the scope is provided by the teaching system while the remaining 20% is based on the decision of the Instructor. With this flexibility, SSI Dive Professionals are not squeezed into an "overstandardized" teaching system and they can enjoy the teaching experience by integrating their own experiences. This feature benefits the individual development of the students and helps to train loyal divers. SSI offers the whole range of diving programs from Snorkeling and Freediving to kids' scuba and up to technical diving. Due to this variety and the flexibility of the

system, each Dive Center can offer unlimited program combinations to fulfill the needs of each individual customer. Students have the option to learn the academics by home study and/or by FREE Online Training. This allows the Instructor to spend more time in the water with the students permitting them to become more confident and comfortable. SSI is the only training agency which offers FREE Online Training for Snorkeling, Try Scuba and Open Water Diver. SSI sees online training as a pure acquisition tool for new customers and not as an additional source of

TRY SCUBA STANDARDS CHANGE - ANNOUNCEMENT Try Scuba Standards(Pool / Confined Water) 1. Instructor: An active Dive Control Specialist or higher may conduct the Try Scuba program in the pool without direct supervision. Change: Divemaster changed to Dive Control Specialist Effective: Immediately

New Diver Stress & Rescue Program Available Immediately We have added an additional session to the Diver Stress & Rescue Program to allow more practical application for the participants. The program now consists of 2 Academic Sessions, 3 Pool Sessions and 3 Open Water Sessions. The Instructor Manual and the Cue-Cards have been revised and a set of PEGs (PowerPoint Presentation) has been developed to supplement the program.

New Dive Guide Program Available Immediately This program is the entry point to a Dive Professional Career with SSI. The material includes: Dive Guide Manual, Buddy Team Slate, Dive Guide Instructor Manual and Dive Guide PEGs (PowerPoint Presentation).

New Science of Diving Program Available: Quarter 3, 2010 This new non-diving specialty program is the bridge between Dive Guide and Divemaster. The English materials will be available during the 3rd Quarter, 2010, while the German and other languages will follow within the 4th Quarter, 2010.

New Dive Control Specialist Program Available Immediately The new Dive Control Specialist Program is ready for release. This program will substitude the current Dive Control Specialist Program as soon as Science of Diving is available. New Specialty Instructor Manuals - Available Immediately All Specialty Instructor Manuals have been completely revised. In addition, a new set of PEGs (PowerPoint Presentation) is available to complement each Specialty Program.

The materials include: Science of Diving Manual, Science of Diving Instructor Manual and Science of Diving PEGs (PowerPoint Presentation).

News Enriched Air Nitrox Program - Available: Quarter 4, 2010 The beginning of the fourth quarter, 2010 the new Enriched Air Nitrox program will be available in it's entirety. The program has been completely revised with an adjustment integrating both EAN 32 and EAN 40. All information has been brought up to date with more emphasis being made on dive computers rather than dive tables. Therefore, making the program ideal for teaching in either traditional programs or in holiday regions. The student and instructor manuals have been revised and a new set of PEGs (PowerPoint Presentation) is available to supplement the program.

INSTRUCTOR UPGRADE PROCEDURES Implementation of the New Dive Professional Programs starting July 15, 2010 The new dive professional programs - Dive Guide, Divemaster and Dive Control Specialist are now certifiable within ODiN as of June 15, 2010. Existing Dive Professionals will need to update/upgrade in order to achieve new training qualifications.

Advanced Open Water Instructor Upgrade The Advanced Open Water Instructor will be able to upgrade to teach Dive Guides by either going online or attending the first day of a Dive Control Specialist Instructor (DCSI) Update with an Instructor Trainer. The Advanced Open Water Instructor will need to purchase an Upgrade Kit at the SSI Service Center to do the online update or from the Instructor Trainer when joining a DCSI update program. Upgrade Duration: 1 Day with an Active Instructor Trainer or the online update. Upgrade Agenda: Explanation of the new Dive Guide Program, Evaluation Criteria and Training Standards. Upgrade Package: Advanced Open Water Instructor Price € 89.- without VAT     

Consequence of not upgrading: Current Dive Control Specialist Instructors who do not wish to update, will keep their ratings, but will only receive the qualifications for teaching Science of Diving and Dive Guide, NOT the new Dive Control Specialist program. Instructor Trainer Upgrade Instructor Trainers will not need to order an upgrade kit as it will be shipped automatically to each of them. Upgrade Procedures: Instructor Trainers will need to upgrade online before they are entitled to offer Upgrade Programs for Advanced Open Water Instructors and Dive Control Specialist Instructors. They may purchase the required material directly from the SSI Service Center. The upgrade will be completed through an Online Training Tool which can be accessed through a code that will be within the materials. After the online exam is successfully passed, the system will issue the credentials automatically. Once the credentials are issued, the new programs can be taught immediately. Instructor Trainers and Instructor Certifiers will have to attend a mandatory update in 2011 in order to

qualify to teach the new Instructor Training Course. We will provide further information in an upcoming Newsletter. Consequence of not upgrading: Instructor Trainers who choose not to update will keep their ratings, but will not have the ability to offer Upgrade Programs for the Advanced Open Water Instructors and Dive Control Specialist Instructors. IMPORTANT NOTICE: Science of Diving will be ready for shipping in July, 2010. In order to ensure a smooth transition, we will be shipping the previous Dive Control Specialist Kits until the Science of Diving is available to ship. As soon as the Science of Diving Materials are available, then we will start shipping out the new Dive Control Specialist Materials. All Dive Control Specialist Programs which were started with the previous materials need to be completed by 31 December, 2010. All upgrades for Instructors also need to be completed by 31 December, 2010 as the ODiN system has to be reprogramed to reflect the changes.

SSI Receives Global ISO Certification Scuba Schools International (SSI) the premier education and business support company receives the prestigious ISO (International Standards Organization) certification worldwide. As of June 1, 2010, Scuba Schools International is one of the few training agencies which holds the Global ISO Certification. Seven SSI Programs, five for divers and two for instructors, received the confirmation that they fully met the international quality standards (ISO 11121 for Try Scuba Diving, ISO 24801-1 to -3 for Scuba Diver to Dive Guide, ISO 11107 for Enriched Air Nitrox and 24802-1 and -2 for Dive Control Specialist and Open Water Instructor.) Due to this, the SSI Certification Cards will carry the ISO quality label for the appropriate ratings. "It used to be that a domestic standards organization was enough. Today, SSI does business in 110 countries and can no longer rely on just a national standard.
